I have dined in many restaurants. This one was outstanding. The service was exceptional, and the food was fantastic. We shared appetizers, pastas, and entrees. Executive chef Todd Stein has creatied innovative and delicious dishes, with the best quality ingredients. We were truly impressed, and we don't impress so easily....

We went to this restaurant because of the glowing reviews & left wondering what all the fuss was about. If all you care about is trendy decor, then this may be your place.
However from the start we were let down. Our waiter ignored us most of the evening until after the bill had been presented.
Appetizers were brought with the entrees. Limited menu choices.
Two in our party had luke warm pasta entrees. Waiter seemed unconcerned when told pasta was tough. Prices somewhat high considering what was presented. Overall not somewhere I would ever go again.

Cibo Matto, located on the second floor of the Hotel Wit, reflects has a pleasant yet trendy look. Impeccably decorated, the blacks, off-whites and indirect lighting offer a comfortable dining atmosphere. The menu, though limited, is diverse and accomodating. Portions are smaller than many other places but clearly what Americans should be eating. Beautifully presented, our menu choices were cooked perfectly: whitefish perfectly seared and risotto perfectly textured. An antipasti salad choice with fresh mozzarella, heirloom apples, various parsley and hazelnuts provided prelude to the meal. We were seated at small tables along the kitchen side, which, were we larger people, would have been uncomfortable. Clearly, the couple who arrived next to us were not happy with the tightness of the space. Though the prices are clearly Chicago, perhaps they are a bit overpriced considering the portion size. Yet, the superb preparation outweighed any monetary complaint. Service was excellent; the wait staff clearly knowledgable and attentive.
