“Nice Christmas Visit”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

We visited here during a Christmas visit to Chicago in December 2013. It was a freezing day, so the humid and warm inside of the Conservatory was a welcome change! The Conservatory is nice--there were a number of beautiful and exotic plants. The orchid room was especially gorgeous, and the fern room was also very interesting. Signage helped point out some of the plants and was helpful, but not omnipresent so you felt overhwelmed. At Christmas, there is also a poinsettia exhibit; this was a little less grand than we anticipated, but still pretty and seasonal. Overall, it was a nice hour or so, not too busy (Friday afternoon), and free! Worth a stop for sure.

“Lovely, exotic plants”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

This was a great place to spend a rainy morning – it was a bit wet in the conservatory also, but we didn’t mind. This is free (a donation box is there, which I encourage you to contribute to). The various plants were beautiful and well labeled. If you like plants, or need a quiet respite on your visit, this is a great place to go.

The Conservatory is one of the best I've been to. It's well cared for, with a nice variety of plants. I was amazed that it's free! When I visited, they were incorporating a sound exhibit, so had different music in each room. One room had a live flute player, and the sound added another level of interest. It's small, so even if you only have 15 minutes it is well worth the visit.

“Free oasis in the city”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Right next to Lincoln Park zoo, but overlooked by some visitors, this large glass conservatory is divided into several different areas - tropical, desert, a space for flower shows - and is an easy and free stop (especially good for some heat and humidity in the colder months). Signs help distinguish the plants, and there is usually a piece of sound art in one of the rooms. Also, if you find yourself in need, there are bathrooms and a drinking fountains at the front. Nothing glamorous, but good in a pinch.

“A Peaceful Inside Garden”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

A nice flower - garden place to look around. It is right out side one of Lincoln Park zoo enterence/exit. If is FREE! It also has restrooms. Not a good place for strollers. Tons of different plants and flowers and different rooms to go into. When you walk outside there is a big open field full of plants and flowers to. A nice picnic area or to relax.
Hours 9 to 5. Tours can be given call 773-883-7275
Open year around.
