The view of Lake Michigan from the pier is just breathtaking. The Ferris wheel was the highlight because you could take in the whole city and lake from a different view. Loved the shopping area and restaurants there too. Kid friendly.

The pier has some amazing views from the end of the dock. If you want any guided lake/city tour (via bike, Segway, boat) or want to rent a bike, you can get them on the dock. There are also lunch and dinner cruises and speedboat rides. There is a Structural Museum and displays of art.
The Pier has a Children's Museum (geared for 3 - 10 year olds) and an Amusement Park geared for younger kids.
Plenty of places to eat and drink, including beer stands.
It does get crowded during peak hours.
Now, my three kids (17B, 14G, and 11B) found almost nothing they liked. All three thought the Amusement Park was for "kids." We did take a boat tour of the architectural history of the city, which was nice, but long. So overall, we did not spend much time on the dock.

There are so many things to see and do at this venue! See the stained glass windows, visited the special garden, eat at one of the many restaurants, see a movie at the Imax theatre, take a ride on the carousel, the list goes on. This place is very busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Don't miss going here! It is a fun place with a party atmosphere. There are fireworks on Sat (10:30pm) & Wed (9:15pm) nights. Have fun on the pier!

Ehhh.... A lot of hype for a bunch of touristy junk shops and a bidding war for your scheduling a boat tour.... Nice to get neat the water though....
