“Great hotel to see the sights of Chicago”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

Stayed here on a family trip to Chicago. A major plus was free parking! This hotel was only 2 blocks away from the CTA Cumberland station, which provides "L" train access to the city. This hotel also had a shuttle which could bring you to O'Hare airport, which we never used, but would be very helpful to airport travelers. Although there are many airplanes in the area, it is still easy to fall asleep. Only con was that the wifi was slow.

Our air conditioning unit failed our first night, but a call the next morning had the maintenance guy there in 15 minutes, diagnosed and replaced the unit within a 1/2 hour. Generally clean, the housekeeping staff know how to tidy-up! The hotel's restaurant was FANTASTIC. You must ask for Hristina (Cristina) to take care of you - she made sure we had everything we needed. She goes the extra mile and clearly demonstrated leadership amongst the other staff; recommending what they should or could do for their patrons. She was customer service at it's finest - wish we could've taken her back to Michigan with us!! The food was so fresh and with exceptional presentation and quality! I would stay at this hotel again solely based on this restaurant! It made a great start to each morning for us! The pool was nice. Fitness Center was fair - one broken treadmill, towels and paper cups strewn around all three days I was there. Management was visible and resolved issues. Gift shop was very hot - candy bar we bought from there was melted! Overall, a good experience, pricing appropriate for accomodation.

If you like waiting an hour for a shuttle, having to wait 40 minutes for a roll-away bed, overly priced food, and smell of smoke in the elevator, this is a great place for you. The wait staff was the only good thing--they were extremely friendly and courteous.

Used a central point for our Baseball Road trip.

Ideal for transport from the airport, via the 'El', only three stops from O'Hare.

About 30-35 minutes into the loop and the centre of Chicago. Cumberland 'EL' stop only five minutes walk from hotel.

Hotel ideally situated off highway, so straight off north to Milwaukee etc with ease.

Hotel staff friendly and helpful, two of the party had issues with phone cards which they helped with. Used the Restuarant for dinner and breakfast some days, again staff very friendly and helpful.

No issues with cleaning of room each day, room itself had free wireless internet.

This location, now a Holiday Inn, has improved since its previous Clarion hotel association.

One thing that has not changed is that the room windows continue to be filthy. The room windows have not been cleaned in years and years. Years of grime and dirt and bird droppings cloud the outside of the windows, and many fingerprints are obvious on the inside (housekeeping should clean the inside). It's a shame, because the hotel is fine in other respects.

Also, while the rooms are very clean, the bathroom drain stopper did not work. I can't understand why the housekeeper would not have maintenence fix it, as this was an obvious problem.

Also, while I brought my laptop, it seems a bit chintzy for this hotel to charge to use the internet terminals in the lobby.

What does anyone want when they travel, clean Hotel, good food, and people who no matter what job that they have give you a smile while doing it. I found this Holiday Inn had it all,it may not be the biggest one around that area but I found that I felt right at home there. My friend came in for a visit with me,I spent alot of time going in and out of the Holiday Inn, great service no matter what time of day, and the food was very good , the Servers where always on the go, but with a smile their service was GREAT !!! The whole staff was always a great help with any questions, so what can I say Please do not be NASTY because of the NAME , HOLIDAY INN O'HARE.! Gail Dalton

Many small problems led to a less than satisfactory stay. First, we were given a smoking room after requesting non smoking. When we returned to our room later in the evening the smoke smell was overwhelming. Our room was changed, but it was inconvenient to have to pack up and move. We checked in on a Thurs. and reserved the room for 3 nights, but found our room keys had been deactivated on the 2nd night. We had to make a trip back down to the desk for new keys...again late in the evening when we were tired...another inconvenience. Also, I requested a shower cap and was told the hotel does not supply them. We spoke to the manager regarding all of the above; however, nothing was done to address any of our concerns or compensate us for the inconvenience. We were directed to go to Trip Advisor and write a review.
