La Quinta Inn & Suites Chicago Downtown
Ranked #76 of 192 Hotels in Chicago
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 13, 2011

You might be inclined to dismiss a La Quinta in downtown Chicago, but this one is an affordable and clean hotel with a terrific breakfast. It is a relatively new property, in a partly new and partly renovated building. Even many locals do not know it is there. The hotel is well located in the heart of the loop, but really for the business traveler rather than the tourist. Any office building in the Loop is an easy walk. The hotel is located only one block from the Orange Line to Midway and just a few blocks from the Blue Line to O'Hare. Either train ride is easy, other than at rush hour when the train is crowded, but at rush hour you risk the frustration of a taxi where the meter moves faster than the cab's wheels. Staff is friendly and responsive.

Stayed here for four nights for business and after some arguing with the front desk woman and help from her manager they gave me a nice room on the 8th floor (rm 822). The windows had a nice view of Franklin St. The breakfast good and free which is a plus. They provided normal continental breakfast items but also had bacon, eggs and sausage. The last night was the worst because a bunch of kids or adolescent adults checked in because of Lollapalooza and partied all night long. Based on the last night and poor front desk help this hotel gets an average from me.

Room Tip: get the 9th or 8th floor that overlooks Franklin St.

Love, loved this place! Great location...it was within walking distance to the Taste of Chicago and other attractions. The rooms were updated and clean. Pretty spacey...the bathroom was HUGE! They also served continental breakfast which is always a plus in my book. There was a lot of food choices and the staff was SO friendly! Definately will stay again!

Such an easy Hotel to get to from the airport. Caught the train into downtown and within an easy stroll with 2 suitcases to a welcoming and happy reception staff and porters.

It was pleasing to see the porter recognised our name immediately and raced off to pickup a package that we had sent there a few weeks earlier for pickup.

Our first night was not the best besting light sleepers. The room was on the lowest floor facing the alleyway that was serviced (what felt like hourly) by rubbish trucks while trying to sleep.
The next morning reception were very accommodating and were able to provide us a very satisfying room that was looking over the quiet driveway, and was almost double the size.

The breakfast was always very busy, not a huge range but satisfactory.

The second room that we stayed in for 4 days was excellent value. So much so that a American friend who was staying in another hoot, commented while while visiting with baby twins how comfortable the room was.

What was so special about this hotel? Simply put, the Porters. They were all a wealth of information, caring, and interested in our daily activities and adventures. Very hard working and I hope they are appropriately remunerated. Thank you.

This room was purchased off Hotwire and was excellent value!!

Room Tip: Speak to the receptionist nicely.

Stayed here because no other hotels were available in the loop or theater district. For $318 including tax I consider this WAY overpriced. No Bar, no work out room and small pool and hot tub. Of course, this is downtown Chicago so the price must refect that fact. Room was boxy, AC noisy and very spartan amenities. Try another chain like Hampton, Summerfield Suites, etc.

Room Tip: No view - not much handy in the way of restaurants or bars.

Staff was very friendly. Comfy room and free Internet. Very close to the Washington/Wells metro stop. Although the breakfast was served on disposable plates (in typical American tackiness) it was extensive and tasty.

We've stayed at other hotels in Chicago, but this was the best price/quality ratio we've found so far. The great location and all-round good quality of the accommodations will make this our hotel of choice when visiting Chicago in the future.

Came here for 3 night Girls Weekend. Booked it on Hotwire so got a great rate. We could not have been more pleased. It was a one block walk from Washington/Wells train stop. Rooms were small but very clean and modern. Only wish there were queen sized beds rather than full size. The breakfast buffet was plentiful with lots of choices and very tasty. The staff was extremely friendly. It was a great location to walk to restaurants and shopping. Also two blocks from Willis Tower and only a few blocks walk to Millenium Park. I have no complaints and highly recommend it. Will stay again next time in Chicago!
