Owner description: Boldly interweaving exhibitions, performances, collections, and educational programs, the MCA is an innovative and compelling center of contemporary art where the public can directly experience the work and ideas of living artists, and understand the historical, social, and cultural context of the art of our time.

A must do for any modern/contemporary art fanatic. Beautifully designed building full of NEW and well-known art pieces. Constantly changing their inventory which is excellent for continuous visits. Easily accesible by bus and taxi, directly off of the Mag Mile. Be careful on the front steps, extremely slippery when wet. They also have a very fun gift shop with interesting items, related and un-related to the museum. Located near numerous other galleries.

The negative reviews on this site are funny. Contemporary art isn't something easily interpreted or understood. Sometimes, you just stand back and admire the pieces for what they are. Or, scratch your head and walk on to the next display. After years of going to more traditional museums in Chicago, this was my first visit to this contemporary art museum and I really enjoyed it. Bonus was live jazz music outside with food and beverages on a beautiful Tuesday evening. The gift shop - with clever gifts, unusual toys, puzzles, and oddities - was as intriguing as the museum.

If you want to experience something" cool",go to Tuesdays on the Terrace at the MCA. Every Tuesday, you'll hear an example of America's classical music:jazz. The ambience is cool, the audience is diverse and the food is exemplary. Every week offers an example of summer recipes from different cultures, like Asian ,South American and American barbecues and salads ,as well as deserts. The drinks vary, according to the food focus.
Be prepared to pay for what experience; the buffet is $25 per person and the drinks aren't cheap.

This is a huge museum, a must see. To be honest I spent several hours there and only saw a fraction of what was on offer. Probably more of an adult experience but do get the headsets , it increases the pleasure.

Both the photography and the exhibit focusing on life at home were intelligently presented and curated. I was lucky and got a great guided tour just as I arrived. I appreciated that the museum seems to incorporate a gender perspective and has a decent representation of women artists. The museum shop is wonderful.
