Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

“Great Museum!”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

My adult daughter and I loved this museum. There is something to interest everyone there. Our favorites were the Storm and human body galleries, the 727, chicks, old main street, and the special Animals Inside-out exhibit. The museum is easy to get to using the express bus from Michigan Ave.

“Great for adults too”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

Four of us (adults) went to the museum for about four hours on Sunday. Honestly we could have stayed a lot longer. There is so much to see with many one-of-a-kind exhibits. The U-boat was really neat, the miniature train city was fantastic and the interactive weather exhibit was really neat. We did the coal mine tour which was ok, but I wish we had paid for the u-boat tour instead. For lunch, they have standard museum cafeteria fare. It was fine, but I would like to have had a nicer cafe option. I guess four adults aren't really their target audience though! Great museum!

“Just great”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Of all the attractions, this was the place we liked most. Lots of stuff to see around. And interesting too. The motion stimulator ride was a waste. It was included in the city pass, so we went. It was hardly for 4-5 min. and nothing compared to the similar rides in florida. Good only for a small child. Adults please avoid it. The air riders was ok. Nothing 3D about it. Wrongly guided by the citypass reviews, since all the shows and movies included in the pass were not worth it except the T-Rex and the Ice age at Shedd.

“A day at MOSI”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

U-505 if you are a history buff. Rest was really not that great. My biggest complaint was that kids run wild. Seems to be overrun with field trips with little supervision. Displays had not changed must since last visit in 2007 and some exhibits, in particular the cars, were filthy.
