Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

Visited the Museum with my twin 10 year old daughters over Thanksgiving. They loved it. Lots to see. We spent 4 hours there.

“Having Fun”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

The MSI is one of the best of science centers in us. Often exhibits look similar to what we have seen elsewhere. This place is very huge and there was almost too much to see but the things we did see was awesome. It was great for adults and kids. The Food Zone was nice but crowded and expensive. We all having great fun.

“superb day with 11-year-old”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

This is a fantastic museum, and we have been to a ton of children's and science museums in the US and Europe. Great, engaging exhibits; friendly instructors and personnel; hands-on scientific experiments; good crowd management, so children had access to things and could experiment without being rushed; beautiful building. My son and I spent 4-5 hours there and loved it.

Must sees: Peanuts exhibit; German U-Boat captured in 1944; train display.

Cafeteria was decent and didn't break the bank. I wish we had known about the bus from downtown to museum campus and science museum before we dropped a ton of money on cabs.

“Nice but dated in places”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Have been going here on visits since I was a kid.
The "pickled babies" (no offense intended) - fetuses in formaldahyde - are unusual. The life size coal mine is must see.
I always like the chick hatching.
newer exhibits like genetics are great

“Hidden costs”
Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

Went here with group. Felt cheated. Came from Fl. and nothing available. Alot to see, but most are same exhibits since I was in school in the 70s. All new ones, you had to pay extra. No problem. Thought we'd buy them at museum. You have to per order them on line. All were sold out. And we got there at 945 AM. ??? Shame. Won't do it again.
