Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

“Interactive & amazing the U-505”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

The museum is spacius and well marked. The real U-505 (the only German submarine in the United States) is in special area. Buy tickets to on board tour and experience life aboard this sub first-hand in the days leading up to her capture. Do not forget to watch the movie at the exit where they show how they built the place where he was stationed as he was taken to the place.
There are many things to experience and test. Very good to go with kids.

“A lot to see!”
Reviewed November 19, 2012

This was a huge museum. There is plenty to see. We enjoyed the Great Charlie Brown exhibit. The omnimax movie was great. Loved all of the Christmas trees. There is a ton of neat hands on things for kids. I went with adults but we had plenty to do. The cafeteria offered a lot of different choices and the food was good, not too pricey.

“Great fun for old and young!”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

This musuem is amazingly interactive. I went here for the opening of the weather exhibit and was absolutely blown away. Another thing that stuck with me was the periodic table of elements exhibit where you can "mix" elements to create compounds in a really fun and interactive display. MSI makes science and industry fun. Take an afternoon and see it all!

“What a wonderful surprise!”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Even though the name of this museum is quite representative of what one will find inside, it is also somehow off-putting, and does not do justice to this fun place. We visited it with two kids, ages 3 and 8, and had a wonderful day. There are so many fascinating things to do that we found it to be way more interesting than the Children's Museum.

It is slightly off the beaten path; we took a cab from downtown and paid $18 for the short ride. It was definitely worth it, as this was the most interesting thing we did with the kids in Chicago.

If you really want to instill innovation, and wonder in your child...invest in a few days in Chicago to see this outstanding facility.
