The museum is in an old residence off Lake Shore Dr, near Lincoln Park. It is an odd place. Some rooms are devoted to specializations, such as, heart and brain surgery, while others are devoted to specific countries--famous doctors of Tawain! There is an exhibit on the third floor in the Peru Room, a golden skull in a black box with lights, that not even the staff knows what it is. The displays about polio and eyeglasses I found the most interesting. It is you are looking for something "off beat" this would be it.

The museum has many exhibits about surgical history. It is inside an old house and there are different topics in each room and floor. Many of the objects displayed are not really described in detail. I would have liked more information how certain old instruments were used, because there are certainly many interesting instruments on display. There is also no interaction at all, no multimedia displays, TVs, computers etc. Every room has a few posters with general information and different objects with mostly only the name written somewhere next to it.

If you go on a Tuesday when it is free it is fun for an hour, but I would not pay for it. It would be really great if they for example would put a tablet computer next to the show case where you can read more about the items, also with more images, pictures, etc..

Went here with a friend for just over an hour. Could have spent more time here if our schedules would have allowed. I enjoyed the various sites and felt that the museum was well organized. I actually thought it may have "grossed out" my non-medical husband, but really there was nothing too crazy. Wonderful information throughout, good for both medical and non-medical alike. Close to the upper portion of Magnificent Mile and Lincoln Park, which we would not have seen had we not been walking to the museum from the subway station. Safe neighborhood and much less crowded than other areas of the city. Like others have mentioned, go for free on Tuesday...you can't beat it!

Very good and interesting. Go on a Tuesday it was free. Would have liked more information on two levels - basic for lay people and more in depth for those with medical knowledge as I already knew a lot of the information. Seeing the Iron lung brilliant, would have liked more CT, PET CT and MR images.
