We spent almost five hours here with kids ages 6, 10 and 13 and were never board. The tinkering station was the group's favorite. I think we spent over an hour there. The room has long tables with all kinds of tools and "construction" materials. Great repurposing of recycleable items! The kids built a robot and a doll house. You can take your masterpiece home or leave it there on display.

We also enjoyed digging for Dino bones, driving a mata bus, playing at the water tables and turning ourselves into butterflies. I highly recommend visiting.

“Not for older children”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

We were two (male) adults and two children. The museum makes it clear it welcomes all types of families (including LGBT).
The museum itself was pricey. The design was fantastic however, with some very imaginative and educational areas and activities.
We have been here on two occasions and our kids have still not explored everything. The activities whilst interesting to young children and their parents will NOT be entertaining to children above the age of about 11. There is a REAL tool workshop which includes saws, drills, nails etc. that might entertain older kids (with a parent surpervising!)

NOTE: It opens at 10am to the general public, each time I've been there have been parents waiting around for it to open.

“Kids loved it!”
Reviewed February 25, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

This was quite an event for my 7yr old boy and 4yr old girl. My son loved the woodshop where he could use a real saw. My daughter was crazy about the rope climbing. There was a lot more things to do than I initially anticipated. After about 3hrs, there were still areas that we had not explored. I think we will be back again for sure.

“Fun for a couple hours for the kids”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

We took our 3 year old daughter here. She had a really good time playing at all the interactive stations. A bit expensive at $40 for 3 of us to go, but it is downtown Chicago. A bit hectic with all the kids running around, but what kid-driven place isn't. Worth checking out at least for a morning or afternoon.

“Great Place”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

My kids are 6 1/2 and they love this place! We have been going here for the last 2 years. We do have a membership and we also purchased the parking as well. 4 visits parking is paid for!

If your kids are over the age of 8 they might be a little to old.

Best thing about the Museum is that its at Navy Pier, which has lots of activities.
