A Downtown hotel in the middle of the Loop, this is a basic hotel with little to recommend it. My room was tiny (described as small) and though I saw another in the same category that was better, it was a bit run down. This is clearly a busy place with very high occupancy, but it's also expensive for what you get, even though that is cheaper than most. I would seriously consider swallowing the extortionate prices of the competition to get a better hotel in this fantastic city. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the valet parking was seamless. Inclusive wifi is also a boon. Funny little pub next door called the Elephant and Castle (where you get breakfast) actually has a photo from the shopping centre in London of the same name. Only Brits will get this joke! Breakfast was ok value and nice though.

Worst hotel we've stayed in in Chicago, they have a niche, but it is pretty much single, male travellers doing business with the financial sector in Chicago. So, if you have a lot of meetings with Bank of America, or Chase, and are on a tight business budget, it might work.

For a couple, it pretty much sucked. Both of us needed to conduct business calls in this tiny room with one combo desk/ coffee valet and often one of us ventured into the hall to answer our phones when they rang. Travelling for 1 week, we had 4 pieces of luggage, not ONE of which fit into the mini-closet. There was no dresser to unpack our bags, so we requested two luggage valets and lived out of our bags. Wrinkley, kinkley not fun. Our king bed was really two twins pushed together, not so much as a king size pillow top connecting the two -- just the fitted sheet! The hallways were littered when we arrived and littered when we left. There were three HAIRS stuck on our bathroom walls -- my own hairs gross me out, much less the hairs of strangers pasted for my viewing displeasure.

The purified water, recycled bottle system was novel and very cool, significantly reducing the cost of pricey, healthful hydration while travelling. The "club" business area was a nice amenity if you need printing. We were impressed to find an Apple Computer in addition to two standard PCs there, as well as two conference rooms where meetings could be held, presumably w/o addition cost. That's a business budget saver as well.

The Elephant & Castle Restaurant downstairs had a nice menu, not unreasonably priced but -- despite what was stated in the Hotel Services room menu -- they would NOT deliver for a $1.50 surcharge plus tip. Not a big deal, we ran down for carryout and cut back on the gratuity given for carryout.

The linens themselves were quality and comfortable. We will never stay here again while travelling together (surcharge for second person too which we didn't know until we arrived), but if it's a quick in and out meeting with the banks, or even a night at the theater, which was very close, we might do it as singles.

If you are strapped in by a company preferred hotel policy, then by all means consider spending $25 out of your own pocket for an upgrade to a suite. There were none available for our stay, which is more an indication of how Manhattan-y miniscule the king rooms are relative to what the market expects in Chicago.

We're back to the Marriott a block west or better yet cabbing it from the identically priced Hilton on Delaware, where we get suites, instead of cubicles.

One more thing: the wifi was great throughout the building.. BUT beware using the business center computers. The browsers did NOT delete browsing history, passwords, etc upon closing, NOR on shutting down the computers. All it takes is an employee scanning the browser history (we checked this for IE, Google Chrome and Safari all on two of the computers), downloaded documents, etc and your data may be compromised. We found this astounding for a place that markets itself to business!

Room Tip: Request upgrade to suite for $25. Standard rooms are far too small for a couple. Who needs a mini...

We were a bit perplexed on where to stay while visiting Chicago. This hotel had above average reviews and reasonable room prices. It was probably the best choice that we could have made. The hotel is near everything in the city. Whether it be shopping or the Willis Tower. We had a rental car, but were able to get a $22.00 per night parking deal through the hotel at a nearby parking station. If you are a bit claustrophobic, then the rooms of this hotel may not be for you, but realistically, we only used the room to sleep in, so it was no problem at all. Friendly staff, clean rooms.....it's all good. I would certainly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in staying again should I visit the 'Windy City'.

Central Loop Hotel is a remodeled old building in the heart of Chicago's financial district. Don't be confused - it's NOT along the Gold Coast's retail Magnificent Mile!
The hotel has a very small lobby but its lower level meeting place is great for coffee & gathering - at no addt'l charges. Work-out facilities are basic. Bottled water available on every floor near the elevators.
The hotel has utilized every possible square foot into as many rooms as possible. So, the rooms are quite small - esp. the studios. Only the suites are the size of conventional chains' double queen size standards.
If you're in the Windy City for a quick stop over that has nothing to do w/ your hotel space, it's okay - only if you do advanced booking! Otherwise you'll be scalped w/ outrageous rates and Central's little spaces.
The rooms are clean.
Valet parking is great - $35/day unltd access.
Personnel at the Central Loop is friendly and helpful. There is no 'snobbish' feel to the place.
There is NO shuttle service to/from airports.
Central Loop Hotel can be an 'okay' place to stay in the heart of the city on a limited budget.

Room Tip: Advanced booking & if two or more guests, definitely up-size.

I stayed here for 3 nights while sightseeing. The room was a little small but clean and had all the standard things you expect from a hotel like this - one odd thing was that the iron & ironing board were not in the room but in a closet in the hallway which guests had access to. This wasn't an inconvenience as the closet was close to the room and extra provisions for the coffee pot in the room were also in the closet. The staff were friendly and professional and the lobby was welcoming and a good spot to sit and wait when meeting people. The exercise room was adequate but some equipment could stand to be replaced.
The most noteworthy benefit of this hotel is its location which is excellent for touring the city by foot, if you like walking and the weather is nice. I was able to walk to the Sears Tower, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Grant Park, and the Navy Pier; albeit some of these are long walks for some. There's a CTA (subway) stop about a block away (the Jackson station) which made getting between the airport and the hotel simple and only costs $5 each way!

I stayed for 4 night from Sun - Thu. Nothing much to complain about.
My room was clean and everything works.
What best about this hotel is its location. I am able to walk to subway no problem.
Also it's just 5 blocks away from my seminar. BIG plus to me :)
Only a little downside is there's no available power outlet around my bed but that's about it.

I would recommend for anyone who has to commute to downtown for a business trip.

My overall experience at this hotel was positive but there were some problems.
Pros: Very friendly staff, centrally located, chilled water bottle service was nice, extra towels, pillows, blankets available on every floor. Very low price for downtown Chigago.
Cons: Room was very small, we reserved a "suite" the room was smaller than most single hotel rooms. I was supposed to have a pull out sofa. What it had was a pull out chair. The room was so small that if the chair was extented it was impossibe to walk through the room from bed to bathroom.
