This hotel has a real sense of history but has been recently modernised and is very fresh and comfortable. We asked for a quiet room and were allocated a very nice, decent sized room on the 11th floor. We were a bit bothered by sirens on the Saturday night but the rest of the time slept very well. The staff were friendly and helpful. The complementary buffet breakfast was very good and had lots of choice. The location was excellent and was within walking distance of many major attractions and lots of great restaurants and bars. The room was very clean when we arrived but we were a bit surprised that it wasn't cleaned properly every day as in most hotels - maybe that's just how they do it in Chicago. We'd definitely stay there again and would recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor facing the back

We took Amtrak to Chicago and booked our 5 nights in the Holiday Inn Express near the Magnificent Mile. The property was formerly the Hotel Cass - great vintage building that has been updated and is a wonderful modern hotel. The rooms are small - but hey, this is Chicago! It's a super location - you can walk to the Magnificent Mile, walk to the Trolley Stop, walk for Pizza, walk for Chicago Dogs, walk to the Subway - amazing!!! We took a cab to the improv at Second City and even that was only a $7 cab fare. Stay here - it's expensive compared to other Holiday Inn Express hotels we've stayed in but then again - it's a BIG city!

Room Tip: It's 16 floors up - the top is always the best! :)

Beautiful hotel in the perfect part of the city. Very clean and helpful service getting to and from city attractions. We got a good deal on the room price, but found out it was a very small room and not very noise-proof. If we stayed again, I would ask to see the room before checking in.

Room Tip: The room was clean, but very small - barely enough room to even walk around the bed. We were able t...

I stayed with family (2 adults, 2 kids (13 & 9)) at the Holiday Inn Express's Hotel Cass. It was a perfect location for our needs - 2 blocks from the Red Line which seemed to be the only transportation we needed for our city stay. I knew nothing about the hotel prior to arrival since hubby booked 2 rooms using H.I. points for one free room. Maybe I liked it so much because we had enough room and one room was free!
Enjoyed Chicago deep dish at Pizzeria Due across the street and shopping at Nordstrom and Trader Joes for snacks.
Hotel was recently updated and the King room had plenty of space for 2 - with a banquette seat, fridge and modern bath. Only complaint about rooms is that ours were not connecting so hubby's was down the hall in a double/double with other son. With our kids ages it worked out better than expected.
Staff was awesome - very professional and helpful. Breakfast was fine for starting your day - although we took the long walk to the Doughnut Vault for a special treat one day.
I suppose I would give this a 3 1/2 if I could because on day #3 of our stay we awoke to someone scraping room number plaques off the wall to be replaced with more modern signage - didn't like that at 8am.

Room Tip: Parking is expensive so be prepared if you're driving into town.

The hotel is close to the "action". There are plenty of restaurants nearby. I few drawbacks - parking is expensive, rooms are small. The evening staff were excellent to deal with - I found them to be very accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was fine and the rooms are clean. Wifi signal not very strong in rooms and the HD channels with the cable did not work.

Room Tip: I don't believe there are any rooms with more than one bed.

Based on the half and half mixed reviews, I was nervous to stay here but we were pleasantly surprised how great everything was here. Some of the negative reviews about blood on the sheets, bed bugs, rude staff etc were not anything we experienced during our stay. We were here for a 6 day September vacation to see the city. Jackie, the front desk attendant checked us in and was really friendly and welcoming. The few issues we had while there were immediately addressed. We used the vending machines on the second floor to try and buy water. The machine was out of water, and took the money we had put in. When we informed the front desk attendant, he went in the back room and pulled out two bottles of water for us. We received a courtesy call when we opted to not have housekeeping straighten the room one morning, letting us know that if we needed anything, just let someone at the front desk know. There is usually someone at the door as you exit to hail a cab for you if you need one. The breakfast was ok, mostly sugary pastries, cereals, pancakes and other carbs. The walls seem thin, but we were staying during a relatively quiet week so noise wasn't much of an issue. On our last night during our stay, the neighboring room sounded like it was full of small children yelling but it was quiet by the time we were ready to sleep. I wish there were fans in the bathroom. Also, the sink does not drain fast if you keep the water running. Other than that, our stay was enjoyable.
