My husband and I stayed here with our 12 month old daughter. I may have had a more positive review of this hotel if it had just been the two of us.

The hotel looks great. The outside is nice and everything inside is very clean. My only issue with the ground floor is there's 6 steps to get from the front door to the lobby and elevators. There's no ramp to get the stroller up; I had to get help from either my husband or the doorman if he were available every time. They do have a wheelchair lift that I remember, should there be someone who needed assistance. For me, it was just a huge pain.

Check-in was easy and they even gave us a pack and play. All of the staff over our entire 4 day stay were very friendly.

The room was nice and clean. It would have been a great room if we didn't have a baby with us. It was too tiny for our family. We had to set up the pack and play in the hallway next to the door and the bathroom. Also, we had a ton of noise from the hallway. I'm not sure if it was a particularly loud group of people (they were shouting) or if the walls are that thin.

The bathroom was kinda small, but serviceable and clean. There was a coffee pot in the room and a nice flat-screen TV, but no fridge or anything. There was also a nice little bench seat that gave it a cozy feel.

Breakfast was good. There were quite a few tables, but they were kinda busy and not many empty ones. They had a good mix of hot and cold things.

Over all, I would stay here again if I wanted to save money by not staying on Michigan Ave. Although it was small for a family, I think it would have been great for a couple or for close friends who didn't mind sharing the space.

The Holiday Inn Express is an excellent choice for a good value hotel in downtown Chicago. The hotel’s location is ideal, one block from the metro station and two from the magnificent mile. A wide choice of shops, restaurants and nightlife are all within walking distance. Rooms are small by American standards with no fridge, but are comfortable and well maintained with good beds, bathrooms and air conditioning. The staff are friendly, professional and very helpful.

The only negative about this hotel is the breakfast arrangements. The breakfast on offer is good, but there is a shortage of seating in the breakfast area, so you can find yourself with nowhere to sit and eat.

This hotel is just off the Magnificent Mile, making it ideal for shopping trips to the Windy City. The rooms are small but in good condition. Breakfast and internet access are free (well, included in the room rate really.) For the location the rates are pretty reasonable.

Valet parking is offered - currently $40 per day but with unlimited in-out - or there is self park right around the corner. This costs $36, but you pay each time you leave.

Room Tip: Go for the higher floors to reduce the street noise.

The location is great and the price is less than I have ever paid. I visit Chicago several times each year (for the past 20 years) and stay at the Palmer House where I have always received exceptional service. Because I wanted to be closer to Northwestern Memorial this trip, I chose the Cass. I paid the higher price online so I would be guaranteed the room I chose. However, when we arrived, they did not have our room. We were stuck in a smoking, handicapped accessible room. It smelled horrible. Because the shower head was hung to be appropriate for someone in a wheelchair (it could be moved, but the rubber was worn, so it wouldn't stay in place), it was impossible to shower without creating a huge mess (everything soaked). We were told we would be moved the next day. We were not. Nor were we given a courtesy call to explain why. When I questioned this, the staff member was rude claiming she had called (there were no messages). The breakfast buffet is convenient, but the seating is limited. Many guests did not have a table. If you plan to workout, the exercise room has a capacity of about 4, so plan to go very early. The parking garage has some sort of alarm which we heard going off and on all night. We left with stinky hair and clothes, but we did get half off our stay.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that face Ontario to avoid the alarm that sounds each time a car leaves the parking ramp...

Tiny, tiny rooms. Table and room color combo reminded me of a jail cell I'd seen on TV. Heating starts with a loud thud and stops with a thud. Faucet moved around; toilet seat moved around. Location and breaker only positives. The cleaning people seemed to take up the entire floor the entire day, every day. What the hell were they doing all that time? No idea. Never seen that before. Most HD channels didn't work most of the time.

Great location! Can't beat it if you want to be close to most of what the city has to offer! You are within walking distance to SO much!
Rooms are tiny. We laughed pretty hard when we arrived, but who spends very much time in the room when you are in the City! Walls are kinda thin too...
Overall, it's a great place to hang your hat after a night on the town!

Room Tip: The view from our room was.... interesting, a brick wall! Lol.. now worries, at least no one could...

Hotel is ok, rooms are small as to be expected downtown Chicago, but the internet access is about the slowest I've seen with www.speedtest.net results 0.35 Mb/s download 0.24 Mb/s upload. (Cable internet can go up to 60 Mb/s and even my old Droid one 3G phone was 1.531 Mb/s)
