“Nice place to stay..”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

This our first trip to Chicago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Michael J. at the front desk was great and gave us great recommendations on restaurants and directions. The room was very clean and the beds were so comfortable. At night you do here some street noise but it is Chicago. The free parking was a plus, we had a great breakfast at Eggsperience which is around the corner, and Portillos across the street was excellent. We had a pizza at the hotel's restaurant and it was delicious, super nice bartender too!

This hotel is brilliantly situated within easy walking distance of the Loop, the Art Institute, the Magnificent Mile, public transit, clubs and tons of great restaurants. It's definitely not the Ritz, but the rooms were clean and the bed was super-comfortable. Best of all was the staff. Everyone was welcoming and helpful, especially Michael on the front desk and Wallace, the concierge. The only criticism I might have would be the heating system, which was noisy, even when the fan was turned down low. But this is minor. We will definitely return on our next trip to Chicago - in fact, we're already thinking about it!

This is my favorite hotel in downtown Chicago. My sister and I stay here nearly everytime we come to the city. We like the pool, free parking, and location. It's close to great restaurants and shopping. When we went to check in this time there seemed to be no problems. We were checked in quickly and went to go get stuff to take up to the room. When we got to room we noticed that there was someone else's belongings in the room. There was a sweatshirt on the bed, with some folders, a bag by the desk, some water bottles. It was very clear that someone was still staying there. We quickly left the room and went back to the front desk and told them what had happened. They got us another room, but we felt a bit uneasy. If they could give us someone else's room, what was going to prevent that from happening again? Everytime we left I felt uneasy about someone coming into our room and taking our belongings. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and actually had nice warm blankets unlike so many of the other hotels we've stayed at who use just a thin blanket between two sheets. We had a wonderful view of the city. We didn't encounter any other problems during our stay and would definitely stay here again. I hope that the issue when we first checked in was a one-time problem, but I had to rate them lower because it was a serious mistake.

Thank you for writing a review of your stay with us on TripAdvisor. We really value guest feedback and we're very thankful to have yours.
We are so very sorry for the mistake. It is absolutely not okay that that happened and you are right to note the seriousness of it. We agree - 100%, no question. We've addressed the issue with our staff so that such a mistake won't happen again, and we would like to again sincerely apologize.
We're very thankful for your honesty though, and we're thankful that you enjoyed your stay afterward and were able to enjoy time in our wonderful city. We look forward to seeing you again and to helping you have an even better experience in Chicago the next time around.

This hotel was very nice for the price. It's a very central location - close to the Rock 'n Roll McDonald's, Hard Rock Cafe, and Rainforest Cafe. I believe Ed Debevic's is not far, either.

The staff was very helpful, as I had the unfortunate luck of hitting a pothole just before exiting the expressway to get to the hotel. They informed me that there was a Midas right around the corner, and I was able to get a new tire in less than 30 minutes.

The only negative aspects of the hotel were noise (which is to be expected in a big city) and the fact that the rooms didn't have darkening curtains. Otherwise, everything was good and I would recommend this hotel if you're staying on a budget!

This place is a dump! Rooms are shabby and worn. We had the misfortune to say here last Saturday night. I can’t figure out who on Tripadvisor is giving all the glowing reports on this hotel. Something is fishy.

Didn’t think about this part of the city being the club district. We checked in about 10:30pm and knew we were in trouble when charter busses started dis-engorging loud party goers onto the street outside our window shortly thereafter. Apparently Saturday night boozing is a big industry in that neck of the woods. In the wee hours we found out that, in addition to all the street noise caused by revelers the hotel was filled with people who rented rooms to crash in knowing they would be too reeling drunk to drive home. As they screamed and wretched and bounced off the walls all night we found out that the walls are so thin that you could hear EVERYTHING in the hall and the adjoining rooms. Needless to say sleeping was quite a challenge.

I will be living this down with my wife for some time. She usually makes the reservations and watches for good weekend deals at the better hotels on the Miracle Mile. I made a reservation at this Best Western because they had free parking but the wife’s usual deals would have been cheaper even with the extra for parking and breakfast often thrown in. To add insult to injury I had accidentally made an additional reservation for the night before our intended check in while trying to fix a botched attempt in Best Western’s reservation system and didn’t catch it so we were forced to pay for two nights!

Fortunately by the time we left in the morning the vomit in the hallway and the three piles of vomit within ten feet of our parked car were just funny as was the abandoned car that had crashed through a fence nearby during the night and ploughed into an L support beam.

Don’t be a fool like me! I should have made the reservation at this hotel for an emergency backup and then kept an eye open for a decent deal at a decent hotel further from the clubs so we could have cancelled our stay at this Best Western.

Signed: "Living this Down"

Room Tip: Find a good weekend deal at a decent hotel and spend less $$$

Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. We really do value these reviews, even the negative ones, because they provide opportunities for us to improve guest experiences.

We certainly don't agree whatsoever that we are a "dump" or "a booze palace" if we're understanding that term correctly. But of course we could not be more apologetic about your experience with us! While we cannot control guests' choices while downtown and outside the hotel we always want to make sure ALL our guests have comfortable stays. We hope the front desk was given the opportunity to address the noise on your floor, and we sincerely apologize that you had such an uncomfortable night! Truly. I believe the car accident you refer to was a cab driver and also unfortunate (though everyone was okay).

We are glad to see that you gave us average ratings in rooms and cleanliness and will try to ensure the other issues you raised are rectified should they happen again. If you should be willing to stay with us again we'd love to see you in Chicago and we promise that we can improve on your last experience.
