I stayed at this hotel with my wife for 11 nights during June. We both thought the hotel was excellent. Great location near to the Magnificant mile, close to the lakefront, and also not far to walk downtown (Millenium Park etc). The staff from the front door men, receptionists, bar staf and house keeping were all excellent. Receptionist were particulalry helpful with a couple of queries we had during our stay. We had a basic room but it was large, had a large bathroom, good facilities / amenities and was kept clean by housekeeping. We overlooked the front of the hote and therefore there was some noise from the road outside (ambulances) but it wasn't very loud and it didn't disturb our sleep. Hotel also has restaurant (which we didn't actually try), a small but well equipped gym and an excellent roof top bar.

Very nice and clean! Loved the shower....very roomy! The staff were friendly and helpful....espically the "door man"...I can't remember his name but he always remembered ours...and made us feel welcome everytime we returned to the hotel. Great location for walking the magnificant mile or to catch the double decker bus tour...which was a great way to get around town!

We stayed here for the July 4th weekend and couldn't have really asked for more. We made our booking through Expedia and found an incredible deal for a studio suite. Location was excellent just a half block off the Magnificent Mile. Staff was extremely friendly and the rooms spacious and very comfortable. Rooftop lounge was a nice and highly recommended. Crticisms of the noise and the elevator are somewhat correct but have experienced the same in other major cities that I've been to. Overall an excellent hotel and would stay here again.

The Affinia Chicago is a decent stay for a trip to Chicago although with a slight warning sign.

Now the good was:
1. The service, the staff were always helpful and we were always greeted with a smile, whether from the porter opening the door, getting the cab, whether the receptionist answering all our questions etc. All good and friendly.
2. The rooms are quite large and roomy and reasonably up to date.
3. Good adjoining restaurant (C-House by Markus Samuellson), with good staff.
4. Nice rooftop bar.
5. Excellent location. Good neighboorhood, next to the magnificent mile, next to a good deep pan pizza place, close to the lake.

For the bad:
1. The worst was the sleep. The beds are not the best to start with. Second, the location, as this is next to the Northwestern Medical Uni, there are a fair amount of Ambulances driving through the adjoining streets, and therefore you should be prepared to be woken up frequently. The soundproofing is bad as well. The windows are not double glazing and therefore you can hear the ambulances like if you were on the street and we were on the higher floors! The door out to the corridor is for some reason of some sort of wood that lets all sounds through as well. If there is someone talking in the corridor, you will hear their every word. If someone loud lives in the room across the hall, you can again hear their every word. So, sound is the biggest problem here and due to it, I did not have a lot of sleep, even after long days sightseeing in Chicago and falling into bed every night, I was not able to get a good nights rest. After arriving home after the weekend, I needed sleep!
2. Two slow elevators for most of the Hotel. With a roof top bar that is open to the public, you can have a lot of traffic at the elevators to get back to your room. Plus the elevators are super slow which doesn't help.
3. No minibar! I am used to hotels of the same status as the Affinia having a minibar in the room. Would have been nice with a little fridge to store our water etc. I find minibars in most hotels I stay at and find them super useful, but not here. They even have loads of space to put one, but none were to be found.

At the end of the day, I thought our stay was good and the staff left me with an overall good impression of the place and I would therefore probably recommend this hotel, but, I would recommend it to people who can sleep through anything!

Booked super early and got a steal for $120 a night plus tax for 4th of July wknd. Beds were a bit firm, but besides that... enjoyed every minute of our stay. They offer a pillow menu with a variety of pillows to choose from should you desire a memory foam pillow, etc. Hotel is less than 10 mins walk to the "L" for easy access to/from Wrigley field, and to/from Midway airport. Its right next door to Gino's East pizza.... highly recommend grabbing a pizza there! Roof top bar was great place to kick back and have a few drinks. Waitresses were a bit snooty towards some customers as we heard them complaining about the "type of customers" they were getting. But overall, it was a very enjoyable stay and will consider staying again!

P.S. As mentioned in other trip advisor comments, the elevators can be a bit slow!
