Four Seasons Hotel Chicago
Ranked #4 of 192 Hotels in Chicago
Reviewed July 8, 2014

This was by far the best place we have ever stayed in Chicago. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, especially for our two daughters. They went out of their way to make it a special experience for the entire family. Four Seasons will be our go-to hotel whenever we visit. Our two year old asked if we could make this our vacation home. The hotel has thought of everything and we were very impressed by how it was both family friendly and classy at the same time. Every one of our requests were immediately taken care of and I don't think 'no' is in the staff vocabulary. The restaurant was great as well and it's staff is also very patient with young children.

Room Tip: High floors have excellent views on either lake or city side.

Porsche is having a promotion for FS guests where you get to drive one for a couple of hours around Chicago. Great idea and a nice way to drive out of the city into the burbs on a day when it was not raining. Tip -- try the lake shore from The Museum all the way to Evanston.

Here are our tips

Look for deals at the hotels here on TA or with cards such as the American Express Platinum Card

Since the rooms are on floor 30 to 45 , they are all high and a lake view is nice if you want to pay for it but the city view of one of the most architecturally beautiful cities in the world is just fine

The Concierge service is great. Hit them up before hand if you want dinner and other event reservations.

The hotel entrance if off Delaware street which is the side of the 900 Michigan Avenue address. One enters on the first floor and has to take the elevators to the 7th floor to check in and then the hotels room elevators are behind the front desk closer to the Allium restaurant.

When you are coming down the Elevators from your room, the elevator will not show L but 7 and we saw many folks confused about getting off on 7.

Check out the bathrooms on the lobby level (one close to Allium and the other in the far East corner -- especially if you have young kids ;-) This is more of a hint and not a tip

The Aged Manhattan at the Allium Bar is a classic. Have one and thank me. Well have two but one each on different days -- you are in Chicago to see the city or work are you not ?

The Brunch at Allium on Sunday consists of a pecan roll with a mimosa, then a seafood platter and an entree and ends with a visit to a dessert bar. It is not a brunch buffet but imho better than those huge buffets.

How does one find the Gym. Well get off on the Floor which says Spa, head to the Spa Entrance and then to the right as you face the spa check in desk are the Mens and Women's rest rooms . You walk through the respective rest room (you know who you are I hope) and get out through the other side and will see the lovely indoor pool which has a great hot tub and a decent lap pool -- but i digress -- well as you come out of the bathroom, you will see a door which says Fitness. Climb up the stairs to the fitness room. -- You may not see an attendant early AM which is why this tip can help.

The Spa is excellent. If you are planning to splurge a bit for your DH or DW or for both, book in advance. The DW had a facial and a body scrub and was gleaming.

Location Wise -- This hotel is on the Northern End of the Magnificent Mile close to Water tower for shops and to Rush street bars and restaurants. Oak Street beach is a short walk away if you want to take a dip or go for a run along lake shore. There are Divvy bike rentals close to the beach. To get to the Museums or Grant and Millennium park it is about over a mile's walk along Michigan Avenue. There are buses along Michigan Avenue. Or a cab or uber works fine. We walked most of the time. To get to the L walk a few blocks to Chicago and State for the read line. Avoid a car in Chicago. use the ventra cta pass and use the wonderful CTA

I have stayed her a lot but switched my allegiance recently. i decided to try it again and boy did i make a mistake. Just got back and was so disappointed on the rooms at the Four Seasons that i wish i didn't stay their. First, the lobby and the atmosphere of it felt like a funeral. Then when i went up to my suite on the 44th floor it was dirty. Carpet looked so dirty and the marble in the bathroom has not clean. i paid a lot for a suite and wish i stayed at the peninsala. That will be the only place i stay in Chicago from now on.

I choose this hotel for a long weekend celebration of my daughter's 50th birthday. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful. We were greeted the first night with a special "happy birthday" dessert plate. Breakfast was great each morning. The bonus of a 2 hour test ride in a Porche (a special promotion at the hotel by Porche) and shopping discounts at 900 Michigan Ave shops made for a great weekend. My daughter loved the fitness center. Hotel is so convenient to everything you might want to do and concierge has lots of suggestions. A great celebration made better by being at the Four Seasons.

Room Tip: doesn't matter. Lake view is dark at night. City view sparkles at night and in either case you...

American Express offered a buy 2 nights, get the 3rd free deal. My husband and I decided to participate. We also got free breakfast and $100 to spent at the hotel. Our room was a lovely king corner with a beautiful view of the city. The breakfast allowance was $23 each, so we ate like royalty with salmon, eggs Benedict, etc as part of the package. For dinner, we ate at Allium. where they have the best hot dog in Chicago, awesome sliders, great fries, good drinks,.....just a nice experience. The service was outstanding from Ahmed at the checkin dest to Marianna out waitress at Allium.
Things to do near by: took bus 151 to Lincoln Park zoo and conservatory, walked to Navy Pier and Field Museum, ate at Fontera Grill, and shopping in the same building on the Magnificient Mile.
Would I stay again? you bet. It was a very memorable experience!

Room Tip: Ask for a bump to a corner room...We had 2 views of Chicago.

My husband is deployed in Afghanistan and felt bad that he was not going to be with me for my birthday. He planned an overnight stay at the hotel with spa services for me and my mother. It was by far the nicest, most wonderful hotel I have been to in Chicago. We felt like rock stars!!
