Swissotel is a great place to stay when visiting Chicago. The views of the river, Navy Pier and Lake Michigan are perfect. Michigan Avenue is just a short walk away, and there are multiple great restaurants within a few blocks. The rooms are spacious, modern and very clean. The location on E Wacker gets you away from the downtown bustle but keeps you close to all the great sites. The beds are very comfortable and all the little extras make Swissotel stand out from other hotels in the area. Next time I visit Chicago, I will certainly seek to stay at this hotel again.

Stayed here last weekend as we were in town for the Bears game. We have stayed in many hotels downtown, but this by far is the NICEST! We've stayed at Allegro, Whitehall, Hyatt and Hilton on Michigan Ave, and this was the fanciest hotel of them all. I'm not sure what all the negative reviews about service are, we were treated just fine. I don't expect the hotel staff to remember me by name and greet me in the hall....they met our expectations just fine. We LOVED the lounge for some late night drinks, it seemed to be pretty busy. The low lights and overall ambiance were great, and the next morning there was a barista there making starbucks lattes at the bar. Our room was beautiful! Had two double beds (my only con of this place is that there were no queens in the rooms). We had a corner room so we had river and lake views. Everyone is also griping about the price of this hotel......do your homework, people!! I booked our room 4 weeks in advance on bookit.com and got a stellar rate of $149, which I watched double in the following weeks.By the way, the day I booked the hotel the rate was $149-169 at every single online hotel competitor. Be smart, shop sites and you will get a good rate. The concierge recommended a great italian restaurant to us and gave us a map with walking directions. My husband and I have decided that this is our new Chicago hotel & we won't be going anywhere else!

Swissotel is a great modern alternative to the quaint, older, boutique hotels in Chicago. Although I do enjoy a nice authentic botique hotel, sometimes you need a modern property instead just for the amenities. We were traveling with out young son (9m old), so we needed proper floor space and convenience that comes with a more modern layout.

Staff was friendly, very attentive, and embraced the arrival of our little guy. The rooms were very clean, GREAT view, and the air conditioning was QUIET and ACCURATE! Also, beds and pillows were very comfortable.

Hotel is located on the south end of the magnificent mile. This can be good if you like shopping that strip, or not so good if you'd rather shop uptown a bit, because the nearest blue line station is 9 blocks from the hotel,

Excellent stay. I will return!

The hotel and it's ammenities were just fine, but there was nothing personal about our stay. I came with my 14 year old daughter and her friend for a birthday weekend and they really enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. We were really close to The Loop, Mafnificent Mile, Millenium Park and Navy Pier so the location was great. But if you're looking for personality, you may want to keep searching.

We liked the unique design of the hotel and the location was great. The beds were very comfortable, beautiful high def TV, nice shower and tub, digital thermostat controlled the temperature nicely, and overall very clean and comfortable. We couldn't walk by the delicious fruity water dispensers in the lobby without stoping for a drink. Nice touch.
The staff wasn't overly friendly except for the bar tender who helped us decide on a restaurant. Excellent choice by the way.
One major complaint was the wi-fi. I called the desk to report that I couldn't get connected and they said someone would be right up. Half hour later the engineer came in and said it happens often and he had to call their provider, which he did from the room phone. We found out later that we were charged for the call. He said it would take some time to fix it and left. It wasn't working the next day and another guy came up to fix it. He said he'd need to reset the router. Never happened. The front desk finally gave me the password for the staff wi-fi which worked from the bed but not the desk. Not very convenient.
Definitely not the end of the world but we expected more for $320 per night.

Pro's
- lovely hotel and in a great location for the Magnificent Mile and the Navy Pier
- fabulous views of Lake Michigan from the bedroom window
- huge king size bed which was very comfortable
- robes for use during your stay
- lovely Swiss toiletries
- fantastic bathroom with separate shower cubicle

Con's
- extremely inefficient check-in process, only 2 people to check you in whilst the 3 concierge desks were fully staffed but not allowed to help......
- extremely expensive e.g. $55 per night for parking, $50 if you wanted a fridge in your room......
- you had to pay for wi-fi access and to me, in this day and age, that is outrageous. We stayed in a cheap motel in Tullahoma and got free wi-fi so there is no excuse for these big hotels to charge for it.

We got a bargain rate through Bookit.com and if this were available again I would go stay here on another vist.

Room Tip: Ask for a one of the higher floors to get the best view.

We spent 3 nights there in a king room on the 18th floor. The hotel is very nice. Convenient location to millennium park just off Wacker easy walking distance to most of downtown. Clean, ecofriendly an overall enjoyable stay. Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: As high a floor as possible to enjoy the views.
