“Construction”
Reviewed February 12, 2012

Just wanted to let everyone know if you are looking for a hotel with high rise construction next door the Swissotel Chicago is the one for you. My wife and I went there last year and there was just an empty lot next door, this year there is a loud construction site next door. So 8 am Saturday morning you will hear the workers starting. I am sure once the summer in Chicago comes around they will work all night. Just think as they keep adding floors you will be able to look the workers in the eye and wave from your room that used to have a view of the Navy Pier. Now you will get an up close and personal view of people pouring concrete.
On top of it the hotel is doing construction of there own. The front of the hotel is block and lucky for us the protestors that are standing in front of the hotel were able to tell use where the new entrance was. The protestors were there because the Swissotel hired a company to redo their sound system that does not hire union workers.

If you ask the workers about the noise and they say we can't hear it. I am sure the Swissotel does not want word getting out about this.

If you insist on trying it for yourself don't pay for your room in advance they will not let you out of the room and then you are stuck.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel.

At check-in no one told me which floor I was on or how to use the elevator system. The room service menu was overpriced ($30 for a sandwhich + 20% gratuity) but the food was delicious and delivered quickly. The faucet in the bathroom dripped all night and it sounded like my neighbor was showering all night too. I hear the Swiss has a great river veiw but mine looked into an office building. In the morning I asked for directions to my meeting and the nearest starbucks and was told the location was right through the glass doors on the concourse level and that there was no Starbucks near by. After 2 blocks of walking I found a Starbucks and the building where my meeting was held. I will try the Hard Rock Hotel next time I visit Chicago.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a river view

My husband and i travelled to Chicago to see a concert and decided to stay at this hotel. It was a great pleasure staying there. The rooms were recently renovated and were very clean. Size of the rooms was really good and view was amazing. We saw the city alive!!! The staff was extremely friendly. The hotel was big yet charming. It almost had a boutique feel with a grandeur appeal. Would definetly stay there again.

I stayed here for a conference in 2003.

Since I just recently joined Tripadvisor, I thought I should offer my two cents to members on this one!

The Swissotel Chicago is a great property for business, leisure and individual travelers. It is centrally located, and their staff is knowledgeable and able to provide you with very good ideas on activities as well we good input on where to dine, etc.

We had a very enjoyable conference and I still have a vivid memory of the entire stay, though it has been a while since I have visited.

Taking Swissotel´s operating standards into consideration, I am pretty sure that the service, quality and value provided than is still the same, or even improved to date.

I would definitely stay here again if happen to return to Chicago.

The Field Museum package at the Swissotel Chicago was a fantastic quality for a short family getaway. With the breakfast for 2, VIP Field Museum tickets for 2 and access to the 42nd floor pool and gym, you can't ask for a better value.
The hotel was even able to accommodate an early check-in for us. We had a wonderful time with our daughter and certainly go back again.

This sleek hotel, run with Swiss efficiency, is our favorite place for a weekend vacation. There are usually package deals available which include room, VIP tickets to a major attraction, use of the fitness center, and breakfast in the Geneva Room. The triangular tower shape means there are no long halls that funnel noise and that every room has a good view. We have never been disturbed here by drunken parties or unruly children. If you plan to stay in a lot, you may want to upgrade to a lake view room to enjoy Navy Pier sparkling in the night. The generously sized bathroom is spotless with soft towels, robes, and very hot water. The bed with enormous pillows is extraordinarily comfortable. The breakfast buffet features many fresh, healthy foods and eggs can be made to order in the kitchen. The fitness center offers a variety of machines as well as the pool. Our only complaint is the charge for wi-fi which should be included. And we do recommend you ask the staff for directions to the Pedway, the underground walkway system which is accessible from the hotel and will spare you many blocks in the cold Chicago wind.

Room Tip: At the time of reservation, indicate if you need early check-in. They can often accommodate this req...
