“Swissotel a business paradise with great service”
Reviewed October 25, 2011

I have to say after a stay in the Chicago Fairmont, I was a little disappointed in the room at the Swissotel Chicago - it was quite utilitarian, but not necessarily all a bad thing. If I were on a business trip I would have been completely satisfied with the stunning lake and river views. The rooms were clean and well-planned. The bathroom was also clean. But...we were there for a romantic interlude, so the small-ish lobby full of conventioneers, the on-site Palm restaurant full of conventioneers, and the bar full of conventioneers was sort of a drag. The location is on a cul-de-sac, so is actually quiet despite the heavy construction to the North of the hotel - we never heard any noise whatsoever. Downtown is literally a couple of blocks, and Millennium Park and the Art Institute and many restaurants are steps away. Lakeshore Drive is also a couple of blocks away if you want to rent a bike for a few hours along the lakeside. I guess the service is the story here - to then man/woman, everyone went out of their way to say hello, to ask how our stay was, did we need anything, can I help you out...it stood out as exemplary. The breakfast restaurant below the lobby level provided a very nice spread, and, once again, the service was wonderful. I asked if there were any stray newspapers on one occasion and the server went upstairs and got me a brand new one.

Room Tip: Either side of the hotel works - the City view includes snatches of Millenium Park and the lakeview...

My husband & I recently stayed at this wonderful hotel and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is visiting Chicago. We stayed here for 2 nights and the staff were excellent in their professionalism and warm rapport. The amenities are first class, the room was a great size and the restaurants had a fantastic choice of menu options. The hotel is situated in a great position that offers easy access to all sight seeing opportunities and shopping.
Anyone who is visiting Chicago must stay at the Swissotel as it is "good for the soul!"
Congratulations to all of the staff who work there.

Externally the place looks great. But when we got to the room, the pillow case had a nasty looking stain and the shower door had a bad looking crack. If anyone got caught on the crack it could seriously hurt them.
We were also not told that the fridge had a sensor that if you move a bottle, you will get charged to your room. When you look at the fridge door...it has very small print. This is something that should be mentioned before you enter the room.
Also the beds.....I think I could have slept better on the floor...the beds were rough!
If it wasn't for my company paying for this trip, I would not have stayed there in the 1st place.

I am in Chicago once per month on business. On my last visit the Swiss was not availble so I stayed at a hotel on Mich. Ave. My stay at the Mich Ave hotel really made me appreciate the Swiss. From the pleasant and helpful staff to the beautiful view of the lake and the fruit welcome basket that I receive, the Swiss makes me feel special.

The rooms are well appointed and impecabbly clean with a comfy bed and good linens. World class shopping and restaurants are just a short walk away. I highly recommened the Swiss it is a business class hotel and is typically more reasonably priced than the competition.

I recently stayed at the Swissotel in Chicago for three nights with my fiance, who was attending a work conference held at the hotel. The hotel is located pretty far out east on Wacker Drive, just south of the river. (It's located past the Hyatt Hotel, also on East Wacker.) The location turned out to be a detriment when the under-staffed cab line didn't move at all on a busy Friday night as we were trying to make a show that evening. It was so inconvenient trying to hail a cab at the hotel that we decided to change our plans the following evening and have dinner at the Palm Restaurant in the lobby level of the hotel.

Room service was efficient and edible -- not the best, not the worst. There is a fully equipped minibar as well as a Keurig coffee machine (the kind that uses individual pods to brew coffee!) in the hotel room.

We had a fantastic view of Lake Michigan facing south, which was great from the 32nd floor. Unfortunately, when we called ahead to the hotel before the trip, I was informed that the gym requires an additional fee of $15/day. Because we were staying at the Swissotel with a group booking for my fiance's work, both wifi and the fitness center ended up being complimentary. Wifi has a charge of $10/day, otherwise.

Next year -- for this and other annual meetings that require us to travel to Chicago -- we will be staying closer to Mag Mile on Michigan Avenue (likely the Conrad or the Park Hyatt). Location-wise, the Swissotel is a bit out of the way for visitors who enjoy walking around and are attracted to the main tourist attractions downtown. Our stay was certainly comfortable, but there are hotels in Chicago that are more geared toward leisure/family travelers.

We stayed here with our 6 year old and another couple and their tow kids (12 and10). We were able to book for a really reasonable price and recieved an upgrade to the 33rd floor. Beautiful view of lake, river and Navy Pier. Watched Sat. Night fireworks right out our big window in the room. Concierge was super helpful, valet parking (a little $, but its Chicago). Always got us taxis quickly. Would definitely stay there again.
