“great location”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

It's our first time staying at a Fairmont Hotel. Also a first in Chicago and wanted to celebrate my birthday in a new city. The Fairmont employees (bell man, front desk etc.) were pleasant. We tried to ask for a higher floor for our room but was told due to our prepaid room, she couldn't give it to us unless we wanted to pay an additional rate. Nevertheless, our room was on the 20th floor. Good enough. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was big and included a bathtub and a shower. It was great to have bathrobes to use since my husband forgot his pajamas. In the evening we heard people next door talking/arguing with each other. Not sure if the walls were too thin or they were talking loudly. We tried their Japanese/American restaurant in the hotel...do order their specialty sushi rolls. Delicious. Our last day, we asked if they had a computer available to check in for our flight. A bell man gave us a vague answer and couldn't find an obvious location of their computers. Found it accidently around a corner in the lobby area in front of the bathrooms. He should have been more specific. Who puts computers in front of bathrooms in such close proximity??? Bad location planning.

Room Tip: Location is great! A 5 minute walk to Millennium Park, Tavern in the park restaurant and many other...

Disclosure: I did not pay for this trip as it was picked up by my wife's company so I cannot provide a review based on value.

We stayed 2 nights and the location is perfect as you can walk to so many of Chicago's points of interest. As you arrive to the hotel you are warmly greeted by the bellman. The check in process was fast and easy serviced by a very friendly Agent. Our room was on the 35th floor and would like management to take note of how friendly and amazing the housekeeper assigned to this floor was. She made sure to smile and ask how we were doing every time we passed her in the hallway! This little friendly gesture every day made us smile and made us feel genuinely welcomed at the Fairmont, all the staff did but she set's the standard.

Food: We had buffet breakfast and a plated dinner through the hotel. The breakfast passed but on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 6. The plated dinner was great and I would give that a strong 9.

The Spa was something I took advantage of and had a great experience although I did find this to be expensive.

I would absolutely love to go back sometime and I recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: I personally enjoyed being high up as the views of the city are spectacular.

I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel from May 1-3 2013 for a work event. Everyone at the hotel was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotless and the beds were extremely comfortable (I slept like a baby). We used the conference room for 2 events and the service there was also great. There were 6 elevators in service while I was there and because we had nearly 800 people staying there and attending the same meetings, it was difficult to get an elevator at times (again, that's only because 80% of their rooms were trying to get to the same place at the same time).

I don't have any information on the Spa, but from what I heard from others, it was amazing.

The lobby bar "Aria" was a bit overpriced, but the service was great.

The Fairmont is located in, what seemed to be, the Financial District, but it was a short walk away from Michigan Ave and a short cab ride to places like Wrigley Field & Navy Pier ($11-15 cab fare).

First time to Chicago and it was a great trip (even with the work meetings).

Room Tip: We had a 12th floor corner room that seemed to be bigger than the other people in our party.

Around the corner from a bunch of tourist attractions like the Art Museum & the Millennium Park, really an awesome location for a hotel!

Rooms are big enough & comfortable enough for any tired or not so tired traveller to get good sleep! For the more energetic individual there's a nice gym downstairs & also a pool available next door at the neighboring hotel for a fee of course.

Staff is friendly & room service prompt. Pancakes & coffee was delicious.

Definitely worth the stay & money.

Hotel was clean and very central to downtown. Staff were very attentive. What I didn't like was the airport shuttle was more expensive than a cab fare. I agree Bell staff were very friendly. We walked from the hotel to nearby sightseeing and restaurants. Stones throw from Millenium Park which we loved to walk through. Very pretty.

We stayed there for the conference. The Hotel is nice, rooms are clean and comfortable. Bathroom is large size with plenty of towels. There was no lotion or any kind of cream though. I would expect this stuff to be in stock for this kind of the Hotel. You can't beat the location-right in Downtown. We were with the large group of coworkers. Maybe that's why elevator ride was an adventure. We had to wait for a long time to get in. And when we finally get in we had to ride in a really full elevator stopping on every floor. Definitely not enough capacity for this kind of events. Other than that we liked the Hotel. Sleep was comfortable and we would come back there if visit Chicago.

This is a nice business class hotel that is just fine. Concierge service is excellent in terms of helping with directions and dining suggestions as well. Nice restaurant in the hotel. My only reason for not giving it five stars is I felt it lacked a certain wow factor given it is pricey even by downtown Chicago standards.
