“beautiful room, good service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

We enjoyed our stay here. We did have to wait for our room, but were comped drinks in the lounge which was very nice. The room was clean, beautifully decorated, and had a great view. I didn't find anything dated or inadequate. Would stay here again.

Don't be fooled! I am a travel agent and have stayed at 3 other properties in Bermuda, San Jose and Miami. This hotel should be shut down based on the poor service alone. I certainly hope the President received better treatment! Meghan Holly checked us in and presented the worst attitude ever! She treated us as though we weren't good enough to be in this hotel. She gave us our keys and walked away. Never pointed us in the direction of the elevators or asked if we needed help with bags! The room I booked online was not the room I received so beware if booking online! We had to upgrade to a suite to accommodate 3 adults at an extra cost of course. The beds are comfortable and the view is nice but don't expect housekeeping after 10 pm! Maintenance brought up dirty/soiled sheets and was angry that he had to go back for clean ones and extra towels. Our room was not cleaned after the 1st night, only the bed was made. We had bags of garbage with spoiled fruit left behind, floor wasn't vacuumed and again no extra towels were left after being requested! For $400 a night I expected better! I would never stay here again nor recommend any of my clients stay here. I spoke with the manager Patrick Farrell upon checkout as a courtesy and he seemed uninterested in making this right but thanked me for the feedback. That told me a lot and further confirmed this hotel is NOT the place to stay in Downtown Chicago!

I stayed at the Fairmont for a girls weekend. Four star hotel in TEXAS apparently has a completely different meaning in Chicago. The room was average. Bathroom was nice with separate shower and bathtub. Lighting was inadequate throughout the whole room. Lots of elevators! Bar was over-priced and very non-friendly staff, until they realized we were guests at hotel. Food was very expensive in their restaurant, but plenty of places to go because of great location. We actually ended up hanging at two other local hotel bars to watch football and get cheaper drinks!

I stayed with my family in the Fairmont the last week in November. We had a 1 bedroom suite on the 31st floor. The carpets and decor are a little dated and plain. I was surprised to find the super tiny fridge packed full with little alcohol bottles and food, so we could not get any of our own food in there. A suite at this level should have room for your own food and beverage. The windows were breezy and we had to keep the heat set high. I called 3x for a crib. The shower barley puts out enough water to rinse your hair. We could hear the elevators going up and down. We had access to the club level and ate many meals on the 15th floor. The food is very average and did not rotate much from day to day. They had the same goat cheese red peppers every day and meat with crackers. On 2 days the plates were gone and most of the food was gone by 9am. They charged for alcoholic beverages which is not the case at the Sheraton in the evenings. We had room service food delivered one day and ordered a plain waffle with bacon on the side and coffee. I received a chocolate and ham waffle and plain hot water. I called back and one plain waffle and coffee was brought back up but by this time I was over breakfast and the charge was 26 dollars. The waffle was very underwhelming for 26 dollars. We ate at Aria and had Curry shrimp. We received 3 shrimp for 29 dollars and it was not good. The fried rice was pretty good. I would not eat there again. The room seamed clean. The staff was really nice. I did enjoy the location and the view, but with all the choices in Chicago I would not return to this hotel. For the price we paid and the lack of attention to detail and poor quality food there are many better choices. I did get a facial at the spa which was a nice service.

Fairmont Chicago

Thanks to a late TravelZoo deal, The Fairmont Chicago had the best rate I could find for the weekend. The lobby tries to promote luxury and the room was nice, but it was nothing head and shoulders above the competition. It served just as our home base for 48 hours.

Comfortable bed, enough room to lounge around, 42″ flat screen TV with LodgeNet so you can connect to WiFi and then control your TV from your mobile device instead of a dirty remote (Android, iPhone). The best part about the hotel was definitely its location. It was a block from Wacker Drive, which runs along the Chicago River, and was basically within a mile of everything we wanted to see. Other chain hotels in the area were the Hyatt Regency, Radisson Blu, Sheraton, and InterContinental… I would just book the one with the best rate.

The only negative of our room at the Fairmont was the poorly designed bathroom. It had a walk-in shower in the corner that was undersized, along with a separate tub and separate toilet room that was small as well.

As in all such institutions there are two aspects in each one: the physical setup and the people who service. In this case the two seem to diverge a little which is most unusual for a Fairmont Hotel.

The physical aspect seems a little tired, particularly as far the amenities of the bathroom are concerned. I occupied room 603 and than 1904 and there was a similarity in both cases.

First the shower in 603 gave an impractical lukewarm jet, regardless how long one waits for it to stabilize. Than in room 1904 the temperature was perfectly acceptable although the quality and practicality of the shower knob leave lots to be desired in both cases. The spray is theoretically adjustable but practically it is awkward and does not lend itself to any significant change in the nature of the spray. Otherwise the room is very well appointed in the usual Fairmont quality with an excellent and complimentary coffee machine and well stocked fridge and bar. It would, however, been a very elegant touch to provide an initial complimentary bottle of drinking water.

Now to they qualities and service offered by the staff. This was exceptional as expected. They willingly and without a flinch changed my room from 603 to 1904 for a working shower, the bar personnel at the lobby was most professional and helpful particularly with a rather impractical management policy at breakfast time (which should be reviewed and changed!), excellent service at Aria bar/restaurant and generally exceptional service by the staff everywhere.

I happen to be fanatic about Fairmont Hotels, ever since the CN/CP days so I am a little favorably predisposed to them. That is why I write a critical report of evaluation so that they may correct their ways for next time in Chicago.

We had a hotel/ spa package for the first weekend in Dec. To our surprise we were exploring Chicago in sweatshirts in Dec. And the Fairmont is a perfect place to explore from. It is very close to Millennium Park. So close that you should park here. It is only $26.00 a night compared to $55 a night at the hotel. It is less than a 5 min walk to the hotel.

We had a partial lake view from our 31st floor room. The room is spacious and modern. There is a large bench at the foot of the bed that is great for suitcases so you can easily access your clothes. If you are staying there is ample drawer space under the bench. There is also a big closet and large safe...big enough for your laptop. WiFi is not free though, which is disappointing these days. There is an area outside the bathroom with a make up mirror in addition to the toilet being separated from the bathroom by a sliding door so two people getting ready at the same time is easy, You also have a tub and a separate tiled shower that is fairly good sized.

The bed was very comfortable with 4 feather pillows. And we were glad we could control the temp for our room individually. (not the usual air unit under the window that is always too loud).

Our room was in a cluster of 4 off of a main hallway. The problem was that we could hear EVERYTHING said in the hallway. One of the guests left at 8:00 am and woke us on our sleep in late weekend.

MySpa is in the hotel and we highly recommend that. Pam and Ben are awesome as well as very nice facilities. We had reservations for dinner outside the hotel (Bella Bacino's which was very good) We did come back to the hotel after some site seeing for dessert and went to Eno. We ordered two cakes that were $8.00 each expecting that we would be able to split them and take some back to the room. WRONG! They were bigger than a mini cupcake but smaller than a regular sized cupcake. The ginger ice cream was good, but not $8 good.

To sum it up: Comfortable, spacious room.Great location. Awesome Spa.
Park at Millennium garage and save $30.00. Eat at any nearby restaurant and save quite a bit too. Bring a devise that has WiFi.
