Description: If it seems like HUB 51 is a continual party, that's just what creators R.J. and Jerrod Melman want. Their dad, Lettuce founder Rich Melman, always told them that the restaurant business should be fun, and, as Jerrod now interprets that advice, "We want to be as playful as possible, and have a good time with our customers and the people we work with." "Our goal for the menu was to create food we like to eat," says R.J. They loaded it up with sushi, tacos, sandwiches and burgers. Great salads and appetizers like the arugula Caesar and Pulled Chicken Nachos appeal to the bar crowd, while the filet mignon steak tacos and the charred sake salmon serve notice that HUB 51 is providing both a great time and wonderful food. With dozens of beers, wines and sakes, HUB 51 is all about what you like. SUB 51, a private lounge below the restaurant, becomes an exclusive nightclub on weekends, while space in the main restaurant is also available for private parties and semi-private events.

“Another excellent Chicago restaurant”

Food is awesome. Crowded on Saturday afternoon, but service was good (except for waiter pouring pitcher of specialty drinks and spilling it all over the place). Highly recommend fish tacos!

“Unique Menu- Great Atmosphere”
Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Great place for dinner and / or drinks with a great atmosphere for date, happy hour, or even a business dinner. We reserved a table for 8 right in the middle of dinner rush. Restaurant was very accommodating and held our rez as we arrived late.

Very happening spot with a great atmosphere and good looking people. Not quiet by any stretch but not so noisy where you cannot talk to each other. Bar and restaurant upstairs with a lounge downstairs. Menu was awesome and a hit with everyone in our group - sushi, modern Mexican, and American fair - everything tasted great. Would highly recommend to a wide variety of folks.

Pros:
- Menu selection and creativity
- Atmosphere and crowd

Cons:
- Not a family dinner spot
- Can get a little crowded at times
- A bouncer Ids people coming in for dinner which is a little strange

“Unique combination of sushi & Mexican”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

This was a great place. It was much larger than we expected, and we arrived early because we were starving and the reviews indicated if we arrived at 5 or 6 it would be hard to get in. It was noisy and very popular. Chose it because of Yelp/Trip Advisor reviews and it lived up to expectations. Unique menu, nice happy hour, great service. The sushi roles were very good.

“Chicago Favorite”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

They serve cornbread and sushi, and there's a dance club. It's pretty awesome. We also had a leaky roof the night we were there, and it dripped on our table occasionally, not only was the staff awesome about reseating us on a busy night, but they also comped desserts for our entire party, what could have been a problem turned out to be a really memorable part of the dinner.

“Excellent Atmosphere”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

It's a very nice bar and grill type atmosphere...loud atmosphere. It was good food. I had the filet mignon steak tacos...it was ok. Nothing to write home about. They have a yummy "house punch on draft"...for those that like a fruity drink that isn't too sweet...OH, by the way, I believe it was $9 a glass, and (after having a couple) we noticed that you could order a pitcher...I don't remember seeing that on the menu, but apparently it IS an option. It was busy. We went on Wednesday evening at about 6:30pm (maybe just a little later, but definitely not later than 7pm) and they told us we wouldn't be seated until after 8pm-8:30pm. Fortunately we snatched up a couple of bar stools and just sat there. MAKE RESERVATIONS. Our bartender was Lexi. She was AWESOME to watch! So fast at preparing drinks! Listening to orders and just whipping drinks out left and right! All-in-all, it was a good time, but again...I (personally) didn't think it was "spectacular".
