This place was a great place to stay - I was here for an extended weekend and the staff was so friendly and helpful - it was my first time to Chicago and they helped figure out tours and things to do within the city. The location is super convenient - right in the Loop and so many restaurants and attractions (The Bean, Chicago Art Institute, etc) are all walking distance. The inside amenities are fabulous - fancy lounge, and also a great jewelry store.. I ended up purchasing a really pretty necklace from the vendor and it was on sale! Great place to stay in - highly recommend!

Can't beat this for old style charm! The lobby is a sight to behold - and to people watch over a cocktail or two. The rooms with two double beds are huge, although the view is nothing to write home about. If you are a Hilton Honors member perks are special check in line and goody bag at check in. Have stayed here more than once and would do so again.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights with our 2 grown children on a family trip to Chicago. As others have said, the common areas are very elegant and from another era, and it has been restored in recent years. Our room was on the 16th floor, 2 beds and 2 baths, clean and nicely decorated, and was plenty roomy for the 4 of us. Having the extra bathroom and a walk-in closet helped us keep from feeling crowded. When we realized the beds were doubles, we got a roll-away for our 6-foot son, which was another $20 a night. He said it was comfortable, but it was quite squeaky when he rolled over on it. The room was big enough to accommodate the rollaway without tripping over it. Being on the 16th floor facing Wabash, we did hear the Train come by, but it sounded rather like a strong gust of wind, and it did not keep us awake. Buffet breakfast included a variety of hot and cold options, as well as juice and coffee, and all in all it was pretty good. Our hotel package included the breakfast, which is normally $20, pretty steep for breakfast, but there were other restaurants downstairs and on the same block, including a Starbucks, which were no doubt less expensive. We paid for parking ahead of time using spothero.com, $60 for 2 1/2 days, in the hotel lot, which was a bit cheaper than the $42 per day we had been quoted by the hotel when booking. Staff all round were very nice, and the hotel is very well located near the Art Institute and Grant Park.

Beautiful hotel and in a great location. The only problem we had was that the hotel had overbooked for the weekend and downgraded us to a smaller room with a smaller bed WITHOUT compensating us for the downgrade. This was frustrating as many other couples we knew who were staying there (we were in Chicago for a wedding) were upgraded due to the hotel's overbooking for the weekend. Make sure you get there early in the day so they don't shuffle you around and you get what you paid for!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your experience.

I apologize that you did not get the room that you wanted but on sold out nights we are really restricted on what we can offer. We try to honor every guest request as pointed out in your comment with upgrades to a room that is more suitable for their needs and requested room type but once we run out of rooms we can no longer be flexible.

Thank your for your review and I hope this will not deter you from visiting again.

My husband and I stayed at the Palmer House to attend a wedding at the cultural center. The location was perfect to walk to the location, and several other restaurants, shops and touristy areas. We're from Chicago, but still fun to take it all in! The lobby is like stepping back in time with marble decor and fixtures. There is always plenty going on in the lobby with people socializing at the bar or restaurant. Our room was very nice, although if you're looking for a good view, choose somewhere else. This was very traditional in the sense that when it was built, guests stayed because they needed to not for the view or room amenities I feel. Nice size bathroom, and great king size bed, with very stylish pillows and decor. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful, service was attentive. At check-in I'd been given a mug, since it was during a chillier month, and I was able to fill and re-fill this at breakfast. Parking is valet or self park in a garage right across the street. Overall a great stay in a fantastic location.

I stayed at the hotel for a 5 day retreat. Common areas are beautifully elegant. The hotel is huge, so depending on the purpose of your trip, it can be difficult to navigate within it. The hotel is in the heart of Chicago, shopping, food, nightlife, museums, parks, and sites are all within walking distance. Rooms are equipt with a hair drier, mini fridge, safe, television, desk, bed, and walk-in closet. I don't know anything about parking. My only negatives are the high speed elevators (they make me dizzy) and the fact that I was walked in on by housekeeping twice; once on a Wednesday at noon, and again at 8:30AM on a Saturday. Other than that, it was a wonderful place to stay.

When you walk into the lobby you can't help but be taken in by the absolute beauty and history of Palmer House.

Its as majestic and beautiful as every picture you have seen online if not more so;
Have a drink at the lobby bar and take it all in.

That aside;

Check In is seemingly always a gong-show.
Even with a dedicated desk for HHonors Diamond there always seems to be a glut of people ahead of you which take forever to complete their requests.

The most recent stay I was in line to check in at the Diamond desk for 20 minutes, I can't even imagine how long folks in the regular line which was snaked in the lobby would have waited.

Once I had my room key I was off;
This time around I didn't end up on the executive floors (which are excellent) but rather on the 19th floor (which was fine).

The rooms are small-ish.
Not terrible but not exactly functional.

They are comfortable as they are standard Hilton fare but nothing matching how impressed you will be with the lobby.

The location is excellent;
You are walking distance to any number of things you likely want to be in walking distance of.

Valet parking is expensive;
But they are responsive, i called down from my room, gathered my bags together, went down to the garage and my car was ready and waiting, twice.

Thank you for sharing your comment and pointing out our beautiful and majestic Lobby. It is recognized as a gem, not only of the Palmer House but also the City of Chicago.

We are trying new and different things to speed up the check in process. The separate Diamond Desk is one of the new areas that we implemented to get our Diamond members in and up to their rooms quickly and efficiently. With our dedication to customer service, we always answer every question that a guest may have and this may hold up the line just a little bit. We have gotten so much better in the check in process but we will continue to look for ways to improve.

Thank you again for sharing and for being a Diamond member.
