Love the hotel and the room except for one thing, the toilet paper holder was in the way of sitting down on the toilet. So, you have to be a contortionist to use it. In-room WiFi is $13/night which seems excessive, but not unusual for downtown hotels. It bothered me I had to run down to Starbucks for the connection.

This hotel has so much potential, but the staff are terrible at their jobs.

I had the worst experience at this hotel. Our stay was a huge mess.

After reading some reviews on tripadvisor and seeing the beautiful lobby, we decided to give this hotel a try.

A month before our stay, we contacted the hotel and told them we were arriving late around 1:00am. We wanted to make sure a room will be available for us. We planned our business trip through an airlines travel package. They said everything is perfect.

Once we arrived at the hotel, the clerk was a grumpy old man. He was very rude and not helpful. We went up to our room and it was the worlds tinniest hotel room. It was a prison cell. It was literally the size of my walk-in closet. We went down stairs to complain, and the man said it was the only room available. The hotel was completely booked. The room was meant to be an extension of another main room for kids. We explained that we contacted the hotel a month in advance to let them know we were arriving late. He didnt care. He said that what happens when you dont reserve a room through them.

We asked to see a manager, and he stated the manager wont be in until 7am. We told him we will wait in the lobby until 7am. He laughed at us, and I said "i dont think this is funny at all". My girlfriend is claustrophobic, so the room was way too tiny for her. He finally gave us a different room. We finally made it up to our new room around 2:00am. There were pubic hairs on the bathroom towels. It was disgusting. The room was very dated and falling apart.

My girlfriend went to her business meeting in the morning and told her fellow business partners about the accommodations at this hotel. It turns out her business partner had high up connections in the Hilton organization. His friend placed a phone call to hotel management. We were immediately moved to a better room.

If we didnt have the connections, then they would had continued to treat us badly. It was a terrible experience.

Room Tip: Ask for the modern room. Do not settle for the tiny room. Demand another room or leave the hotel

I stayed at the palmer house for my first time and I have to say it was pretty great. I loved the nice welcoming feel the hotel gave off. The lobby was beautiful. The Potters bar was excellent, very friendly bar tender. However The room we were given was very small. I came here for a nice romantic getaway with my boyfriend and I really felt like the double bed was entirety too small to fit both of us comfortably. The room was very clean and the bathroom was big. I went to visit the pool and found it to be very small and crowded. The pool was also outdated looking and the water cloudy so I just decided to avoid the pool. Besides a few small negative things overall the hotel was wonderful and in a great location close to anything you could possibly want to go to.

Booked this hotel last minute to attend a conference at the Merchandise Mart in the beginning of June. While most hotels are minimum $400-$500 when booking 1 year in advance near the MM - I found this great Hilton property for $200.00 p/n! I upgraded my room for a room with (2) baths so I could bring a colleague for around 5,000 Hilton points. Easy cab ride to the MM, and it's walking distance to Millennium Park! Enjoyed the rich history of the property and the lobby ceiling is worth the "look see".

Room Tip: If you can upgrade - get the suites with the two bathrooms! It's a treat to have your own bathr...

The Palmer House Hilton surpassed our expectations with it's beauty, service, and comfort. It claims the title of 'oldest continually-operating hotel' in the United States and has lots of historic charm. The lobby is absolutely beautiful with a decorative painted ceiling and well-preserved original touches. We were given great service as we checked in---upon pulling up our reservation, the clerk did not 'like' the room that we had been assigned and quickly switched us to a lovely room. The room itself was a bit small, but had a comfortable bed, clean and pretty bathroom, and heavy curtains that blocked all the light. We found our floor to be fairly quiet and were able to sleep well each night.

In addition, the doors to most of the hotel ballrooms were open, allowing us to explore the beauty of this unique piece of Chicago's history. There were also numerous places to hook up to Wi-fi and a helpful concierge. Though we did not try the food at Potter's, the in-hotel restaurant, we saw many people enjoying drinks and food. We ourselves gobbled up every bite of our made-from-scratch brownie, a must-have as The Palmer was the site where this favorite dessert was invented!

The location is also very convenient. Located within walking distance to the Art Institute, Millenium Park, shopping, and the Chicago Public Library (a neat building that is worth a few minutes of your time) it also offers easy access to subway and buses for any other attraction you wish to see. We would love to stay there again!

the lobby is spectacular and grand looking! The standard rooms are a bit small and could use some work (for example there were some tiles missing in our bathroom). I loved the old doorknobs they kept in the rooms. The elevators take a really long time!

We travel a lot, and it's a real treat to stay at one of the country's classic hotels that still understands what the customers want. The Palmer House is a classic high-end hotel featuring exquisite architecture with perfect upgrades, providing a pleasant experience while maintaining historic charm. It is a city within itself, which is the way the major hotels used to be. The gym is much better than most hotels; breakfast brunch changes from day-to-day and is made fresh; and the many self-contained and nearby shops have everything a traveler or tourist might need. Maid service is unobtrusive and professional. In short, it's the place we look forward to when visiting Chicago.
