“One of my favorite hotels”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2014

It's been a long while since I've stayed here, and it's as good as I remember. The lobby knocks you over, with a great hotel bar. I love the Freshi and Starbucks in the lower level. The workout facility is roomy and the rooms are great.

Bathrooms are small as it's an old hotel, but that's part of the charm.

The one annoying thing is they wanted to charge me a fee ($50, I think? or $25?) to check in early. I've never heard of that before. They didn't care that I'm an HHonors member. It was only 3 hours before check in.

This is quite the ornate Chicago hotel. The lobby is spectacular. A must see. If you get a chance, try to see the various ball rooms as well, including the Empire Room. All these rooms are very ornate and beautiful. The staff here was helpful and attentive. We had a light in the bathroom burn out and they replaced it very quickly. The room we stayed in was fairly small for a king room, but the furnishing were comfortable. Can take a little time to get an elevator that will take you to your floor. There seem to be plenty of elevators, but on;y certain ones go to certain floors. The central location of this hotel is ideal for seeing the sites of Chicago. It's very easy to walk to a number of key attractions and sites. The "L" is right outside the door to get you to locations farther out. We'd stay here again but opt for an upgraded room.

Room Tip: Opt for a room on the upper floors away from Wabash St to avoid having the "L" running jus...

Good size room with comfortable beds. Bathroom a bit small but clean and with a good, big hairdryer and fantastic make-up mirror! Staff friendly and helpful. Perfect location for sightseeing and shopping and close to public transport.

As usually(!) Hilton does not provide free wifi in the rooms but it worked well in the lobby and bar. As a Silver Hilton HHonors member I was a surprised not to find complementary water, rope or slippers in the room or tea/coffee facility .. in most Hiltons that comes with Silver Membership.

Cannot recommend the tour operator situated in the basement of the building .. they were not very helpful and definately not friendly.

Did not try the breakfast but many good breakfast places very close to the hotel as well as a Starbucks in the hotel.

I did not try the pool or gym.

I would probably stay in Palmer House if returning to Chicago .. depending on the price!

One of the prettiest lobbies...but with the bar running thru it, it can be hard to walk thru to even register. Great location, shopping and sites all close by. A sense of old and very elegant Chicago.
The hotel is a Hilton so great for points.

Room Tip: Upper floor, and corner

The location of this hotel is perfect for sightseeing. We walked to everything we wanted to see. The staff was very friendly and helped us with direction and good places to eat. The bar was a little pricey, but convenient. The room was nice and clean (a little small, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room). The hot tub was very nice too! Would stay here again if I'm in Chicago.

What appears to be a system wide Hilton hotel policies of providing services and amenities ONLY if you request them certainly changes the meaning of hospitality. During our recent stay at the Palmer, I had to request a tea pot...which came as a one off coffee maker. I had to request a robe. The bathroom was was so small, it was difficult to turn around in. I will never stay at the Palmer again because of these policies. There was a time when staying in a luxury hotel meant having all of your needs anticipated and taken care of before you thought to ask. There are still hotels that routinely provide these magical moments...the Palmer House is not one of them. On the positive side, the beds were comfortable. We also found the bell and valet staff to be exceptionally well trained and helpful. If you want luxury, choose another Chicago hotel.

Stayed here for a 3 night visit. Excellent location and an impressive and historic hotel. Room size was fine but double bed seemed small which is unusual these days. Nice sized bathroom with excellent shower.
