“Awesome Vacation”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I was in Chicago for a wedding and the Palmer House was great! If you have a family, the room with two bathrooms is perfect. The bathrooms were a little on the small side but the room made up for it - it was very large and we didn't feel cramped at all. The location was great - close to shopping and most importantly, Garretts! The Navy Pier and architectural boat tours are within walking distance (1 to 1.5 miles) and we loved the Corner Bakery right outside the hotel for breakfast.

Room Tip: Try a room with two bathrooms - quite a treat when traveling!!

Our family of 5 stayed here for a sightseeing weekend. We had a room with 2 double beds and 2 bathrooms. Our youngest was 5, so we brought an air mattress from home and there was plenty of room for that plus all our luggage. The beds were comfortable. The room had a small fridge. The hotel itself is in a great location. You can walk to Millinium Park and lots of shopping. Shedd and Navy Pier were a short cab ride away ($10 or less). The pool was nice and had pool noodles and kickboards for the kids to use. Nice big towels were available at the pool as well. One morning, we walked to Millinium park and had breakfast at a great place called Wildberry Cafe. Many restaurants nearby. If you are going to see a show, most of the theaters are walkable from here. Overall, a great place to stay for our family of 5. I would definitely stay here again when we visit Chicago.

Room Tip: Our room with 2 beds and 2 bathrooms was huge and a great choice for a family of 5. We did have t...

Stayed for business and was pleasantly surprised with the rooms size. ( got a two bed two bath upgrade. Nice lounge for Diamond members on the 23 rd floor. Very close to both the blue and red trains on the L. Parking was a little step at $69. I would stay here again if my business was in the south loop

The hotel is located one block away from Michigan Ave and also blocks away from Willis Tower, famous Garret's popcorn and other main attractions. Parking was expensive 42 self parking and 64 for valet. Thankfully self parking is located directly across from the hotel. Check-in was easy and simple. Double queen was a reasonable size and hotel staff were friendly. Will stay here again....

The hotel is very cool from a historical standpoint. The lobby is ornate and classic which makes for a nice place to hang out and have a cocktail. I booked a small room and though they tried to give me a larger room the hotel was sold out. The good news, for a single traveler, it was more than adequate. The front desk employee was very pleasant and made sure she put me in a quiet room, even without me asking. The room was well appointed for the amount of time I spent in it. My biggest gripe was the elevators that serviced my floor...being old, they took FOREVER but I learned a trick. go up to go down. The reason being, the elevators seemed to go to the highest floor that guests were waiting which meant that floor 19 would get passed by every time. Due to weight restrictions...if the floors above 19 maxed out the elevator, then it would go to the lobby. So go up to go down...one fun game to play is "who is going to get off if the elevator starts beeping"...lets just say chivalry is dead when it comes to this game. Oh..,one other item...the ice machine on my floor was out of service...a little bummer.

With that said, I got a great rate (best in the city for the week that I was there) and would return to this hotel just for the historical vibe to it...

Yes, the rooms are a bit small as others have said but this is a premium, big city property and its tough to get more without top dollar. The Palmer puts you in a classic luxury hotel backed by the solid Hilton name and at very fair rates for the location. Service was fine, concierge and desk pleasant and helpful. A bit crowded but architecture is huge in Chicago and the Palmer is a classic. A nice option if you will be out and about a lot, probably too small if you will be spending your time in the room

Room Tip: Basic rooms are small especially if you go two double beds as our family requires

This was our 2nd stay at the Palmer House Hilton, The first stay we had a small room with very cool furnishings and decor- This last visit we went with an executive suite which was outstanding. The view was wonderful, the decor was awesome. Each room is different with period furnishings and patterns. The suite had 2 bathrooms and lots of natural light from the large windows. The lobby is a great place to sit with a cocktail and there is a lot to see with painted ceilings and incredible light fixtures. It's busy and we had trouble getting a drink and late night snack. We ended up visiting the private lounge on our floor and there were snacks and a nicer quieter place to enjoy them.

Room Tip: Choose an excutive suite.
