There is a lot to do right around the hotel. It is a great location. The rooms are nice and spacious. I was dissappointed there isn't coffee in the room; however, there is a Starbucks in the buidling.

Reminds me of some of the great hotels in Europe that I have stayed at. With so many hotels decorating in a boring contemporary style, it is so nice to find a hotel that is elegant, beautiful, and filled with so much history. Service is excellent too.

The Palmer House is a historic Chicago hotel right on State Street in the Loop. Good location, easy access on the L, and for the most part the staff is friendly and attentive, but you can do better.

Taking up nearly an entire city block, this hotel is big, but that's the way they were building hotels in the 1920's. Being a big hotel means this place attracts a lot of convention business, so it's busy. That's a problem when it comes to the elevators. It's hard to get one. I was on the 20th floor, and despite there being a dozen elevators, only 3 of them went to floors above 17, so waiting was common, and at peak hours of the day we waited a long time.

I understand the hotel was completely rennovated 5 years ago. The historic lobby is beautiful, and my room was well maintained. I was fortunate to get a fairly large room compared to many others I saw along my hall - small seems to be the norm. The hotel hallways are a bit "busy" with peacock feather motif carpets and pictures of former celebrities on the wall - my room was decorated in an even busier fashion with neon green accents - odd.

In an attempt to be contemporary the hotel pipes in thumping lounge music throughout the lobby levels and in all the elevators ... it's out of place for an 80+ year old hotel, and down right annoying.

Unless you're part of a group staying at the Palmer House, you can do a lot better elsewhere in the Loop or along Michigan Avenue.

Reminiscent of the Waldorf Astoria in NYC. Great lobby complete with mural ceiling. Excellent service. Central to Chicago. A real gem. In not sure why this hotel isn't ranked among the top 10 in Chicago. I travel for business in new locations almost weekly and truly enjoyed my experience here.

Elegant, lovely hotel with photos of famous performers from decades past lining the hallways, which alluded to a rich past. Service was professional, room was decorated nicely and was very clean, which is the most important aspect of a hotel.

The Palmer House oozes old world charm. As a matter of fact, I wondered aloud about the lobby ceiling's similarity to the Sistine Chapel. Some might say the rooms and hallways appear to need a bit of refreshing but overall, the hotel is charming and the staff quite agreeable. The beds and linens were definitely comfortable and the bathroom amenities were good. The concierge desk was helpful as were the doormen, and the location was ideal! On the down side, there were no coffee makers in the rooms (Starbucks was on the ground floor though) and free wi-fi was limited to the common areas. Finally, noise carried somewhat so the last morning a gaggle of girls preparing nearby for a wedding could be heard loud and clear. Oh, and I approve of their gym policy, you don't pay unless you actually use it! That's better than an automatic add-on fee. We gave the hotel a thumbs up!

Room Tip: Make sure you're away from the el!

Enjoyed my stay. I was upgraded to an executive suite which was nice. Room was large, quiet and immaculately clean. Lobby is beautiful, staff pleasant. Halls were ice cold, it was uncomfortable to walk from my room to the elevator. It took forever for the elevators to floors 18 and above to arrive which was a drag.
Good location a block off MIchigan, lots of restaurants, theater, shopping and proximity to tourist sites. Would stay again.

Room Tip: If you are above floor 17 be prepared to wait for the elevators. Otherwise I am sure they are all f...
