“Easy train ride from Midway Airport”
Reviewed September 2, 2011

This is a great hotel, especially if you can get on the upper executive floors. It is an incredibly easy $2.25 train ride directly from Midway Airport on the Orange Line to the Adams street stop, and the hotel is right there at the bottom of the stairs. The pool is so small it's almost unusable. I never did find the workout room. The restaurant in the lobby is excellent, and many other restaurants and Chicago attractions are within a few blocks.

Room Tip: Try to get on the executive floors

We loved the old pictures on the wall of former performers at the hotel. The hotel was clean, but felt the employees could have been more friendly...they were nice, but i didn't feel like a special guest when I passed them at the door, at the conciere desk or in the hall.

I stayed here for business in May 2011. It's a lovely hotel with an opulent lobby. The room was small but well appointed. I love the location - just around the corner you are at the park and lake! There are many nice restaurants nearby.

This place is old style elegance. If you like a place that clearly was putting on the Ritz back in the day, this is your place. Not exactly the most modern place, but who cares when it has a historical flair. They do high tea for heavens sake!

I stayed for a work week and had most everything I needed, and set in the downtown has anything else you might need just down the block. While I did not eat at any of their restaurants, I do have room service and it was fine. As anywhere with tip, tax, etc added in and then an expectation for a few more bucks. If anything the downside was far too many folks all too eager to help for tips. If you are elderly and need help with bags ect, this is your place. Also young/hip folks if you can swing the price, this is how high society lived in your grandparents time. I don't mean it in a snarky way, it really is very cool.

The rooms are not very large and mine did not have much of a view. The elevated subway chugs outside as well, but that can be great for getting around. Also 2 block way to Michigan avenue and then onto the lakefront area.

Excellent place for a business conference with very good on site facilities. Even if you don't stay here, it is almost worth just wandering around the place it is so beautiful and historic.

Room Tip: The bed was not the most luxerious, but all was clean and at least average or better.

I chose this hotel for a mother-daughter weekend get-away and it was perfect for us. What an outstanding location ("The Loop") close to Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain, Water Tower, and the Lakeshore Path! Very accessible to CTA subway & bus routes. I have read the negative reviews about the size & amenities of the room but our room with two double beds was just perfect! Very comfortable beds and we slept very well! Bathroom was small but clean. Loved the lobby!!!! Enjoyed dinner at Lockwood Restaurant on site. Awesome complimentary breakfast on the 23rd floor! No wireless internet in the room but wired access is complimentary for HHonors Gold & Platinum members. Loved it so much that we'll definitely be back!

We stayed here to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We ended up here by accident because I failed to make a reservation at another hotel and when we got there they didn't have any vacancies.
I was very pleased with our stay so this might have been kismet. Our room was small but very clean.
We took The Palmer House Tour which is $50.00 but you get a very big lunch at Lockwood for that price. I was so full from lunch, I had trouble staying awake for the first part of the tour which is a lecture but is very informative.

Pros
Excellent location for subway, restaurants and CVS.

Cons
There was only two people working the check-in desk and they were very busy when we were checking in.
No WiFI or fridge

Stayed for 2 nights with my son. Requested and received a 2 Queen room. Arrived at the hotel @ 8AM. Proceeded to check in to drop off bags, and was offered room already. Bug thumbs up for this. Room had an interior view, which I was fine with. Quiet room more important than view for me. Was offered a club level upgrade, but because it was my son and I declined it. Overall though would be a good deal for most customers.

Very few negatives that I can think of. Bathroom is a little small, but I was fine with this. Thermostat was not accurate and/or didn't provide accurate cooling. It almost seems like a certain brand of hotel thermostat issue, at least that is what I am starting to notice, as I had no issues in my recent stays @ other properties with other thermostats.

Big positives were super quiet room, with almost no hallway noise. Great customer service was offered by everyone I encountered. In terms of location, I think you would be hard pressed to find a more public transit friendly property. I think every El line was within 2 blocks of the hotel.

For the price offered, I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
