It is in Excellent location.Staff is very helpful.I paid for the stay but got an upgrade due to Gold HH member. There are few shortcomings of the hotel is that room dining is very expensive. They have wired internet in the room but wireless internet is not available in the rooms and you have to request a wireless device. They have limited number of wireless devices and have not been able to get in 3-4 days stay at the hotel. Rooms are decent size but the beds are not comfortable. In our room we had large closet for suitcases but it smelled so bad that we put our suitcases outside.

Buffer Breakfast is excellent.

Lobby is breathtaking and worth a visit on its own. Had meeting in the ballroom which was also interesting visually. My king bedroom was tiny and would never have fit two double beds. Bathroom very small. Virtually no sink counter space. It is expected you will store toiletries on shelves below sink. Felt like I was in Europe. Staff very friendly and was allowed to check in at noon and check out at 12:30 for no additional charge (I am Hilton silver level). Bed comfortable, linens good, but there was no conditioner with the complimentary toiletries.

I was traveling with my IPad. There is a high speed connection in the room for a fee. Could not get coverage on the IPad even with the 3G. Went to the lobby, still did not work. Went outside by the Bellman, could not get anything because of the L. Finally, went in Starbucks at ground level in building and did fine.

Location was very good only a short walk to the river.

I have stayed at the Palmer House a few times. The hotel has character, the main lobby is very beautiful, but then it falls off. The rooms are on the small side and it appears that they are renovating the rooms in a phased approach. The upgrades are not the best and the bathroom feels very cramped. Besides that the hotel is in a great spot with in the loop and very convenient to all the sites. This hotel is a work horse and gets the job done.

I was at this historic hotel for a 3 day business trip. After reading the hotel web-site I expected modern rooms situated within a historic hotel with old Chicago era flare. However, the recent renovation must have only included the bathroom sink, mirror and bed. The rest of the room was dated (like 1960's), pale green tiles, old looking carpet, black lacquer furniture and extremely small rooms (think European). I am a Hilton honors member and I was not acknowledged as such upon check in. Normally, I receive a bottle of water or free internet, not the case at this hotel.

During my second day, the fire alarm went off in my room. After I scrambled to get dressed and left, I realized it was only MY room. I went to the front desk to address the issue later that day and they laughed at me (after hearing my story) and told me not to worry about it. I was unsatisfied with this response and I called the desk back later and was transferred to security. This person was very hard to understand because of his heavy accent. He informed me that the fire alarm in my room had been replaced earlier in the day and the problem should be fixed. I wouldn't have mentioned this incident, if it weren't for the fact that no one came to my room or called when the alarm was going off or informed me that the faulty alarm was fixed. I had to initiate the requests. What if it was a real fire?

As I mentioned earlier, this hotel was a historic hotel. The lobby was beautiful with hand painted ceilings and gilded lights. Additionally, the conference rooms were ornately decorated and had huge chandeliers throughout. There were so many antique features in the hotel; it felt like you stepped back in time.

Overall, it was tolerable for a short business trip. However, if you are looking for luxury this may not be the place for you. The staff was not very helpful and some of them had heavy accents that made them difficult to understand.

tiniest room we have ever stayed in. difficult for 2 people to pass each other to get around the bed. also rooms tired. elevators incredbily slow despite 3 banks of them divided by floors for (one would have thought) efficiency and quick response. poor staffing-at 4:30 Saturday afternoon, only 1 concierge on duty--very long lines at registration.
there was one highlight--pillows were amazing and in great supply.
this hotel is resting heavily on its former reputation as a chicago landmark hotel.
