The staff was absolutely great! The front desk staff/bellman helped us with a room change upon arrival at 130am (nothing wrong with the first room just a bit small for the four of us). We were transfered to a 2 bathroom room on one of the executive floors which was marvelous. The staff in the resturant went out of their way to accomodate one of our "picky eaters". All in all it was a great stay in a great city. I have stayed there two times previously and I will definitely be back again!

Room Tip: The two bathroom rooms are much larger from what I have seen. Executive floor rooms are pricer but...

I stayed at the Palmer House for a few days in late April.

I had my own room, price was great. Yes some of the rooms are small but they are beautifully decorated, extremely clean, and the bed was big and comfy.

We didn't use the pool (10 bucks a day) or the internet (7 a day i think?) ... just didn't have time to. The hotel has a great location, very central. Subway/buses are right on the street. We didn't rent a car, for 12 dollars we got an unlimited 3 day bus/train pass and used city transit. Was VERY cool, got to see a lot of the city.

Check in was quick and easy, super friendly staff.

No issues would stay here again for sure!

THE GOOD: The lobby and a few of the ballrooms are as old town Chicago as you can get. The sense of history in the lobby alone is magnificant. It's a busy lobby area with lots of casual drinking throughout much of the late afternoon until late evening. It is next to an L stop. It is adjacent to Grant Park and walking distance to De Paul, Solider Field, several museams, the Chicago Theater and the Lake. I flew into Midway at rush hour and it was very convenient to get to without much traffic. My window actually opened to let in the outside air. The hotel staff, when available, were very helpful and courteous.

THE BAD: The rooms were small. There was a very crummy hotel store. The bathrooms could not have been smaller. The shower curtain clung to my body. The TV was not a flat panel. The cable options were very limited. THERE WAS NO IN-ROOM COFFEE!!!!! It was too far away from the Mag Mile to walk. There were a few nice restaurants nearby, but not the amount you would find closer to the Mag Mile. The concierge desk was constantly crawling with people and had a large line. The elevators were very slow (2-8 minute waits each time).

The concierge staff was tremendously helpful - especially Tracey who was truly interested in us having a wonderful time and making the most of our visit. The Palmer House is a beautiful historic hotel of a bygone era. Anyone interested in history and architecture will truly appreciate its beauty.

Only criticism is that our room (with king sized bed) was rather small and with no closet or place to hang clothing. There was also no rest for a and little room for a suitcase.

We played tourist in our own city and chose to stay here for an anniversary weekend last week. The staff was attentive and courteous and the hotel is just beautiful. The rooms were clean and well appointed. It is the lobby of this hotel that truly makes staying there spectacular. Old, historic architecture that has been brilliantly updated to be used and enjoyed for cocktails or relaxing. The location couldn't be better. You are walking distance to everything from Millenium Park, State Street, the theater district and "Mag Mile". Wonderful!!!

... than this. As a traveller on a short business trip, staying at the Palmer just two nights, I am pretty disappointed. Here's why:
1) Line of 12 people deep to check in at 10:00 PM on a Friday
2) No bottled water available for purchase in the room AND the hotel shop was closed (again, when I checked-in).
3) Tiny room - could have been cleaner, too.
4) $20 for highspeed internet and it's not even wireless
5) Limited gym hours and it costs $10 to use the gym per day
6) Overall, just a crowded place with no room to breath.

What I like? I like the location in the city.

Would I stay here again? Only if my work travel demanded that I do so (like for a conference). It's an old hotel, which is nice, but then again, it's seen better days.

The location of the Palmer House is great. You can walk to Lake Michigan, Millennium Park, many shops, and museums. The building is beautiful and they have done a great job maintaining it. My room was small but nice and completely adequate. The staff was helpful and polite.

The gym is fabulous but the hours are very limited and they charge you extra to use it. I always feel abused when an expensive hotel charges for a basic amenity such as a gym.

I had free internet (Hilton Gold) and it was fast and easy to use.

I did not have any problems with my reservation or my stay.
