My husband and I stayed at the Monaco for a long weekend in early May. While the weather was uncooperative, the hotel was fantastic. The General Manager runs a tight ship. The staff is very friendly and well-trained. The property is comfortable and stylish. We will definitely return.

Win!

Room Tip: Corner rooms, of course!

You can save on taxi fees due to the location close to Millennium Park. Small hotel without any nice views of the city, but nicely appointed inside. I enjoyed the "Wine Hour". If you arrive by car the valet is at the overhanging awning. Insist on stopping there or you will miiss it. Rooms are nice.

BHenry81,
The location sure is central and convenient to so many of Chicago's best spots! I'm glad you enjoyed the location. Next time you return, consider booking a River View room, which has a fantastic view of the river and the buildings along it in River North, like the famous Marina Towers.
I'm glad you enjoed Wine Hour- all summer we will have awesome Summer Sangria.
Cheers,

This is a lovely hotel in the " loop". The doorman and bellhop were great. However the reception desk staff were often disinterested and I felt that I was a bit of a nuisance at times. When we arrived 30 minutes early, we were told our room was not ready and it was suggested that we go for a walk until it was ( we had just flow in from the UK and were not offered any way of freshening up). Ok, we thought, the girl on the desk said we would have a nice room, " not facing the wall". Off we went, had a wander and a beer. When we returned after an hour, the same receptionist did not recognise us. She had to look up our names and booking. When we got to our room it was facing...." The wall". Now walls in Chicago are HUGE and this was the view we had. We booked over a year ago and when I pointed this out the bell hop said the hotel was at 110% that morning and our room had no view, but was bigger than the others. Admittedly it was nice and very well appointed, as well as scrupulously clean.. Shame about the massive and noisy air conditioning plant outside, which ran 24/7. There was no price list in the mini bar and I had to ring the front desk to ask the prices. Free coffee in the morning was nice and there was complementary wine 5 to 6pm.
Overall, this was an expensive, up market hotel that missed the mark due to all of customer service. We were travelling Route 66 from there and the reception we received at the Route 66 motel and conference centre in Springfield was a breath of fresh air, with a lovely receptionist who took the time and trouble to make sure we were all set.

Room Tip: Ask for ANY room away from the wall and the air con plant.

Tony,
Although I'm happy to hear the room was large and scrupulously clean and that you enjoyed Wine Hour and morning coffee, I'm so disapointed to hear you felt like a nuisance and that our staff seemed not particularly engaging. That is very unlike our typically welcoming and friendly staff who usually have abundant smiles. Regardless, I appreciate that feedback and we'll make sure we address it as a team as a hole-all our guests should experience the genuine friendliness and welcome that is part of our culture at Kimpton.
Cheers,

We have stayed at a number of nice hotels in Chicago and Hotel Monaco didn't disappoint. The staff was extremely nice, bed and accomodations were great. Coffee and tea in the morning and a wine reception in the evening. All this and a great location. Will stay again.

We chose to stay here again because of the handy location, and found the same friendly, efficient welcome. The decor is eclectic and brings a smile to my face...especially the window seats overlooking the river. There is coffee and tea in the mornings, and a wine reception every evening. It's well located for a tourist in Chicago, close to the Architectual boat tours, a short walk to Millenium Park and the Art Institute, and just over the river from the shopping of the Mag.mile. It's about 4 blocks from the Blue line train from O'Hare, and one block from the closest Loop station.

We recently stayed at the Monaco for an anniversary weekend. The hotel is located right by the Chicago river with a view of the Wabash bridge area.
Our arrival was perfect. Greeted promptly by the doorman. Parking is not part of the hotel but there is valet service. Check in took less then 5 minutes.
I reserved a river view Mediterranean suite. A beautiful 2 room suite. Large king bedroom and separate living room. Bathroom had large tub. A few downsides, small closet and scant dresser space & bathroom shower tiny and bathroom is overall small. But for a renovated hotel is was appropriate. Room views everywhere with this corner suite. Bed was comfortable. Room quite quiet even being close to west Wacker.
I'll provide a separate review of the SouthWater restaurant.
Check out was smooth. Although a great hotel, the lack of a pool may negate this a s family destination in the future as with younger children, a pool is a good attraction.

MDDOC151,
Happy anniversary! We are always delighted to host guests on their special occasions! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the Mediterranean Suite and that amazing view from those window seats. Both kids and adults love to look out on the city from them.
Thanks for sharing teh experience, and look forward to some soon to be renovated bathrooms.

The location of the hotel is excellent, and the staff from desk to maintenance was cordial and helpful. Desk staff were quite knowledgeable. The lobby has coffee service in the morning, and wine between 5 and 6.

My issues with the Monaco are the rooms. Whoever designed them never tried to stay in them. 3 of us stayed in a suite. There was no dresser or cabinet to unpack to (only open shelving in the "living room" area). Half the bathroom was taken up by a giant jacuzzi---this was good since there is no shelving in the bathroom for toiletries (we used the tub!). The shower by contrast was teeny. And--they decorated like a New Orleans wh***ehouse (OK, not the worst thing in the world).

Kimpton designers....you can do better!!!!!!

Bcereus,
I'm delighted to hear that you found the location excellent, along the river and near all the major attractions. It sounds like you found our team genuinely helpful and welcoming, which is also great to hear.
Rest assured, we have rolling clothing dressers we can always bring up to a room and even more good news- we're looking into redesigning all our suites bathrooms to bring in some more space for our guests.
Thanks for your feedback.
