“Great stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

This is a great location. We just walked to the millennium park and to the magnificent mile. We got the room with a view but was at the end, so you would not see the river outright. You would need to peer out. We had a bay window the size of a twin bed. That was cool! We actually ended up cozying in there since the cushion was comfortable too.

The room and bathroom was huge! We had 2 queen beds. There is a chaise, which is so comfy when you are surfing the net. And that bay window can fit 2 people. We know we ended up napping in there. There is a desk, a chair, and so on.

Parking was $48 and really valet only. There are various self parking around that are cheaper and you can access anytime you want. We were just staying for a night and not using the car until checkout,, so it was fine for us. This is an upscale hotel, so it was nice when they help us with our luggages. Of course tipping comes with that, which is fine for us.

Pmmom from Boston,
I'm so glad you experienced our window seats! You are right, they are huge like a twin size bed in some of the rooms. It's a hit with couples and families alike. We have free wifi for Kimpton InTouch members (our free rewards program) and we just upgraded to higher speeds for those who like to lounge on the window seats while surfing the 'net.
Thanks for spending a weekend with us, and we look forward to having you back!

If you are traveling with your family to visit Chicago and want to be close to the loop, the magnificent mile, and Millenium Park, then you would be hard pressed to find a better location than this. The Art Institute was our longest walk, at about 5 or 6 blocks, maybe? And there was a El station close by for getting around the loop or out to nearby communities.

Our river view double queen looked out over Wacker drive and the Wabash and State street bridges over the Chicago river. We could hardly pull our younger daughter out of the "window seat" in the room -- it had such a magnificent view! The room was very large and comfortable, and the desk set-up was perfect for getting some work done.

Hotel also had nice lounge areas and the coffee in the morning and wine bar in the evening could hardly be beat. Will definitely stay here again.

It's so cool to have those window seats that kids and adults alike find so relaxing and to be able to have some rooms that offer such an awesome perspective of the city. Being able to walk to a gem like the Art Institute of Chicago and walk by great restaurants and shopping is a favorite of many of our guests. I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed it.

Rough plane ride, then blasted by frigid air...my initial impression had me skeptical about Chicago. However entering the Monaco flipped that all around. Warm lobby, happy doorman and speedy check in reframed the start of a 10 day business trip. The bed was amazing and there is a good choice of pillows. Third night there we ate dinner in the restaurant and got to sit in the back and watch the chef cook. I had a blast watching the waiters tease and taunt each other! Love it when staff is having fun. My hubby got sick at one point but there is a Walgreens drug store just right on the corner.

Room Tip: Love the windows that faced the street. They have cute little striped leather pillows to sit on as y...

We decided to spend a few days in the city and were looking for a nice hotel that allowed pets. We were able to stay at the Hotel Monaco for 1 night out of 3 due to my son getting sick. From the time we made the reservations to the time we had to leave, we were quite impressed with the hotel. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and very accommodating. The hotel is very pretty and the room we stayed in was really nice. My son loved the window seat! The location was great and we were thrilled to find a hotel that allowed pets. The wine in the evening and coffee in the morning were a very nice touch! We will definitely be going back!

That's what my 11 year old said when we checked out....and I agree. We live around Chicago and we stay in the city to shop and enjoy the city a few times a year. Before this trip I read the reviews that mentioned to get a "window seat" room. I did not know what this was but when I checked in they had a room available but I chose to wait an hour or so for this room. We shopped a little and had time to also enjoy the bar w/ my wife.....very nice bar/restaurant. My two daughters loved having the little "nooks" to hang out in and post pictures. In addition, the room was spacious w/ high ceilings. I did get this room on Priceline and had to pay an additional $20 for the 2 queen room but it was so worth it. It's close to everything and very quaint and classy. In addition the front desk personnel (especially Frances) were great.

Room Tip: Get a window seat room if you have kids.

I'm so happy to hear you and your family loved staying with us and had a great time. Those window seats are so cool, kids and adults alike love relaxing and watching the city from there. It's awesome to hear when new guests experience the genuine care like such from Frances and the unique amenities we have, like Wine Hour, free bicycles to borrow and the window nooks.

I am totally sold on Kimpton Hotels. Stayed at a Kimpton hotel in Philadelphia and now here in Chicago and loved it. We had a picnic on the window seat overlooking the river. We were there during St. Patrick's Day and enjoyed the view very much. Loved the wine hour. Great way to take a break. Bed was VERY comfortable. Our room was across from the elevator, which really scared me at first. I was afraid that the noise from people coming and going would keep us awake. This did not happen at all, the room was pretty soundproof. I loved that we could walk to so many attractions. If you turn left you end up on the Magnificent Mile, if you turn right you end up on State Street. Would definitely stay here again. Had very tasty breakfasts in their restaurant.

Room Tip: Kimpton Hotels Rock!!!

Ulik3, Thank you for taking the time to complete the nice online review!! I'm happy to see that you enjoyed our window seats in the Riverview room you had! They are just fun for watching Chicago from the comforts of your own room. Not too mention that you got to enjoy our great location, and being in the middle of all festivities on St. Paddy's day!

We look forward to your next Chicago visit.

I had to travel to Chicago at the last minute for work and the Hotel Monaco was a wonderful place to stay while in town. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable and the location could not have been more convenient. Joining the Kimpton Rewards program before arriving resulted in free internet access and an unexpected $10 coupon for the mini-bar. I loved the window seat with a river view (maybe add a stool or something near it to help us shorter folks get in?) and the settee was perfect at the end of a long day.
Other than a weak shower, the room was perfection.

Room Tip: As a last minute booking, I was not surprised to get a room directly across from the elevator. It w...
