My husband, brother-in-law, and I made our first visit to the Burnham Chicago for a two-night, two-room stay to tour the city. I had called prior to check-in and after reviewing the very helpful website re the hotel's pet policy. It was refreshing to find this property that accepted our two dogs (both very well-behaved!) with as much grace as its people guests were given.

We stayed in rooms #203 and #208--being on the 2nd floor even though a bit noisy w/ city noises (and the Loop train's frequent passing-by/nothing the hotel could have prevented) but made total sense for our visit as we were traveling with the children, er dogs and this made for an easier quick walk outside to take them to the park in front of the Millinium Park an easy five-to ten minute walk each way from the property. Our rooms were well-appointed and we had no issues of any kind with the furnishing, nice drapery that actually did its job (totally blocked out any light from the large windows so facilitated great sleeping!). Our floor was very quiet (so appreciated when traveling).

We did not dine at the Atwood on premise as wanted to sample other restaurants throughout the city. The two concierge staff I spoke with (a wonderful female w/ dark glasses-sorry cannot remember name!) + Emil) gave us extremely professional and friendly service. We requested one fish bowl for my brother-in-law's room and it was brought up within an hour of our check-in (not bad).

The doormen were very gracious and 99% of the time did open doors for us, especially appreciated when we were walking the dogs. Our check-in and check-out went smoothly, and our rooms were fine (sure, not as large as maybe newer hotels, but we'd trade room size in a heartbeat to stay at a one-of-a-kind historical property with so much character. The bellman who handled our luggage was also professional and polite.

The In-Touch membership did award us the nice $10/room mini bar credit which was appreciated. We only visited the 5-6 PM Evening Wine Reception the first night of our stay... a little limited wine selection (I think there was only one red and one white?) and light munchies might have been a nice touch. We did not utilize the fitness room as did plenty of walking around the city on our own.

Overall, we would definitely return to the Burnham Chicago and would also highly recommend it for travelers with very well behaved pets (understandably any nice property would not want to become a "zoo" with pets in every room/we saw only one or two other small dogs during our whole visit). A final totally unexpected but much appreciated (and fun!) touch was for the staff to have written our kinder's names (Gabriel and Cricket) on the little pet chalkboard announcing "VIP" guests. The front entrance also featured a metal two-dish dog feeder w/ several dog biscuits at all times but no water which would have been good.

Room Tip: Definitely stay on the 2nd/lower floors if traveling with pets needing to be walked outside.... A fun idea for the hotel to consider offering would be to feature a quick optional 10-minute "tour" of the property for first-time visitors if desired, to acquaint guests with the wonderful history, etc.

I stayed at the Hotel Burnham for the third time in the last year plus. Another great stay at the hotel. I was pleasently surprised when one of the desk clerks and a waiter remembered me from my stay three months ago. Wow! One even rememberd why I was visting the last time and asked me about it. The room was comfy and we did have a slow drain in our bathroom, which was fixed right away while we are out. Great service as usual. Just wished we could have stayed longer...

On Washington and State. Close to most anything a casual tourist could want. In the shopping district many natives use and close to the Magnificent Mile, museums, and other major attractions.
A most excellent restaurant (B,L,D) on site (Atwood’s Café). Walking distance to plenty of great Chicago food and many attractions.
Very pleasant. Clean and well maintained. Rooms , as expected, were on smallish side and a little crowded, but quite livable. Housekeeping (April is her name) was as engaged as any of the staff in assuring our comfort.
Every aspect of the rest of the staff services was atop the heap.
Check in (in the rain) was smooth as was the valet parking. Bags to room in a very timely manner.
Basic toilet amenities, though a little sign promises anything you may need – even if they have to go out and procure it for you (Walgreen’s a few steps away next door).
Quality coffee station in lobby until a very early 9:30 am was allowed to degrade to empty prior to closing time (I don’t appreciate that or what I consider the early closing – minor issue that matters to me).
Room should have a Keurig coffee maker (no coffee maker what-so-ever), and I’ve learned to appreciate a couple large bottles of complementary water (not here).
Big hint: A membership in Kimpton’s club is big in bonuses and money saving on the nit-picky things (like garnering free wi-fi and other little niceties).
A constantly maintained large carafe of ‘fruit infused’ ice water at the front desk was a really nice, fun, and refreshing touch.
While I unabashedly RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL, a few small little things could make it ‘destination’ worthy.
A very good value. Will be back.
(I grew up near Chicago - love the place)

An aside: Chicago’s fleet of cabs and cabbies (now tip worthy) has changed to very comfortable and pleasant experience in the past few years. The shake, rattle, and roll kamikazes seem a thing of the past. And cost is reasonable.

My night at the Hotel Burnham was delightful. This boutique hotel retains all the charm its historic architecture and location demand. Staff was amazingly accommodating - friendly and knowledgeable. The room, while small, was comfortable and clean and especially appreciated the little touches - the original "office" doors and hardware and the classic bay with its Chicago School windows left in-tact. I highly recommend it. I really enjoy the Kimpton experience and find the Burnham one of the best.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north east corner offer a bay with a chaise and a peak onto State Street without the noise and hub bub.

We were spending one night in downtown Chicago. This centrally located hotel came recommended by friends, and features a warm, charming art deco interior design. The staff was very friendly and helpful in recommending places to eat, booking our architecture boat tour, holding our luggage, and hosting the evening wine hour.

Would definitely stay there again.
