This hotel was in a great location. We were in walking distance to our meeting as well as to a local bar in the evening. The rooms were very trendy in their decor but comfortable. The Breakfast room was open and spacious with many food choices. The fitness center had good equipment.

We spent two nights at this awesome hotel in February 2011 for our visit to The Oprah Show. Everything was PERFECT!

Pros:
Price-$85 for weeknight with AAA
Location-one block from redline and a few blocks from Michigan Ave, Starbucks and 7-11 (with wine, beer, liquor!) a block away, attached to an Italian restaurant and Ruth's Chris (Happy Hour food for $6 from 3-6), MANY bars and restaurants within two blocks. Rockit Bar & Grill was very good and reasonably priced ($16-25 entrees, $9-12 drinks).
Clean
Friendly staff
Breakfast was awesome! Waffles, eggs, sausage, cereals, fruits, yogurt. Very good selection Open 6-10.
Very comfortable beds
Pool/hot tub but we didn't use

Cons (neither are that bad, but just to make you aware):
Valet parking was $42. There is a garage next door which ranged from $25-30 but we didn't really check it out.
Noisy-Duh!! Right next to a fire station but they provide ear plugs. This why I rated sleep quality a 4.

I am planning on back in the spring when there is not 18 inches of snow on the ground!!!

From the moment arrived at the Hampton Downtown Chicago, the valets were helpful, the front desk was courteous a helpful, and we were able to get our rooms in minutes. We were given maps, some suggestions of where to go downtown. And the location was perfect, you can walk pretty much anywhere -- Magnificent Mile, House of Blues, Rush St, State St., ...., was all walkable with many resteraunts and night spots nearby. We had a blast. Plus FREE BREAKFAST. And Ronnie from the front desk even help take a picture of our group. I don't think you can beat this hotel for value and location.

I am so glad that our team was able to serve you so well with maps & suggestions of things to do in the city. Since downtown Chicago has an incredible amount of choices, it is helpful to get an insider’s perspective to guide you. Ronnie is also such a great asset to out Guest Services team, her knowledge of the area is amazing. The location of this hotel was very convenient for our business trip to the Chicago Merchandise Mart. We were able to walk to the Mart as well as enjoy Michigan Avenue for personal shopping and restaurants. We stayed on the 9th floor and had a very nice updated, clean room. The hot breakfast buffet was fabulous! Staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We opted to valet park our car which was a bit more than an open lot next door. However, the hotel allows you to take your car in an out without a limit or addition charge. It was also the weekend of the NFC playoffs so it was much more convenient to valet park. They also have free high speed internet which was a plus as other hotel charge up to $10 a day. A Chicago fire station was across the street, but it was never an issue regarding noise as some others have stated in other reviews. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip.

Hi kash07!

First off thanks for the review of the hotel. I am glad that not only were you were close to your work at the Mart, but you got to enjoy Michigan Avenue. It is a great benefit that we are in the middle of the two & still just north of the Loop--you can get to experience all of downtown from our location.

As you mentioned, valet parking although a bit more expensive, is a better value in that you get to come & go as you please. Not to mention having the possibility of your car covered in snow in the winter. I know that personally the $10 additional is more than a value than having to scrape the snow off your car!

Glad that you will be staying with us again, we look forward to having you.

Stayed a weeknight in December and was impressed by the spacious rooms and rates. Very conveniently located in River North very central to anything you'd want to see or do. Would definitely stay here again. Wifi was easy to connect to which is sometimes a problem in city hotels, no problems at this hotel

Hi wlan11!

First off thanks for the review of the hotel. I hope that you weren’t too cold while you were in Chicago in December, out weather can be quite a difference for those hailing from California!

I am so glad that you enjoyed our comp high speed internet. We have been working hard to improve it in the last few months, adding a fiber optic line that increased speed 400%. We also now have AT&T supporting our internet & they have been doing a great job keeping our guests connected.

We arrived on a cold day to the warmest greeting. From the valet to the front desk to the sales staff, we felt we received the royal treatment. But watch for just a short while and you will discover that this is how everyone is treated at Hampton Inn Chicago! The staff was super helpful. The decor of the hotel was modern. Sort of the best of both worlds, with old-fashioned service and all the luxuries of today's technology. The breakfast was delicious and I really appreciated the bowls of fresh apples for an afternoon pick-me-up. Hampton Inn & Suites Chicago really is doing it RIGHT!

Hi there, MichianaFamilyYMCA!

It was so great to host your group last month & thank you for your review. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the new modern décor that is throughout our hotel with our recent renovation. But as you mentioned, that décor would be nothing without our staff.

We hope to have you back next year as well. And as always, we’ll have those apples out for an afternoon pick-me-up.
