“Great hotel great location ”
Reviewed July 14, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for 5 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located right downtown so makes it easy to walk to everything. Free shuttle to navy pier is one block away, 2 blocks from the Magnificent Mile. Great free breakfast with lots of choices, pool and hot tub. Would definitely stay here again.

Hey Dixiechick65,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us! I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. Its good to know you took advantage of our great breakfast, location, and pool/hot tub/sauna. Those are some of my favorite things about our property outside of our staff. Like you said our breakfast is great and quite filling. I hope you had a safe trip home!

Have a great week,

Excellent location and value, but too close to fire station. If sirens bother you, this is not the place. Otherwise, the room was very large and comfortable, and location was great and very convenient.

Hey Stephen,

Thank you for the great review! I appreciate the nice compliments about our hotel. I'm happy you enjoyed your experience with us. However, if the sirens do bother potential/current guests I always suggest requesting an interior room. It cuts down on the noise significantly and is much quieter than many room in the city. Hope to see you again!

This hotel is in great location making it very easy to walk to many of the restaurants shopping areas. The breakfast was very good. Our room was clean and easy to get to. Our only complaint was the hotel is located close to a fire dept. and we i hear the sirens often throughout the night but to be fair we stayed at another upscale hotel on a different street earlier in the year and heard the same thing. We are from a small town and I think we just aren't used to hearing this at night. Overall I would recommend this hotel. The staff was very helpful even though they were very busy.

Room Tip: Get inner rooms away from the streets

Hello CDM1960,

I really appreciate the great review of our hotel and staff. Im happy you enjoyed our great location. I personally love it here. Were right in the middle of all the best attractions (most within a 15 min walk), near both sections of the shopping, and some of the best restaurants in the city. The only issue might be having too many options for dinner, if thats really an issue. Thank you again for the great review and we hope to see you again.

Typical Hampton Inn experience. Great location for the Chicago visitor. Down side is parking is expensive at $55 per night by valet which is required. So keep this in mind when comparing prices if you plan to drive in. Package deals with discounted parking and attraction tickets are offered on the website. But verify they are available by calling. The website was not up to date. Our Skydeck tickets were not VIP as stated on the website. The hotel compensated us for the misinformation and VIP (pass-the-line) tickets weren't needed since it was a weekday. Breakfast is free but crowded and specialty items, such as sausage and french toast sticks, were bland and tasted as if they had been frozen. Room was comfy, but view is limited even though we were on 10th floor. Staff was courteous and helpful. Lobby clean and spacious. I would stay again.

Room Tip: Suites with kitchens available for big families. Rooms on upper floors have adequate but low water p...

Hello HarleyGuy,

Thank you so much for the awesome review and the super catchy title. I'm sorry about the VIP tickets. I wasn't aware of the description on the website but we have made the appropriate changes. However, I'm happy to hear that you were able to get right in with no wait. I hope there was clear sky when you went, as it makes the view that much better. I hope you had a safe trip home and we look forward to serving you again in the future!

This hotel is in a prime location. A short walk from the river and roughly 20 minute walk to the lake front. In typical Hampton fashion, breakfast and WiFi is included, rooms are clean and spacious. Our visit was over 4th of July weekend so the hotel was packed, as a result our room was next to the elevators and breakfast was extremely busy to the point that self-serve waffles took over 20 minutes.

Overall, if you can get a room away from the elevator, it is a good choice just keep in mind that there is a nearly 1 inch gap between the door and the floor so a lot of sound will come through (the elevators are really loud, you can hear them moving up and down, there is chime when it stops).

Lastly, this hotel shares the block with a fire station, you will hear the firetrucks. Overall, consistent with the Hampton experience, but really depends on your room and how crowded is the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near elevators, they are very loud. Also, request a room that doesn't face the fire...

Hello middleclasstraveler,

I appreciate you sharing your experience with us and for the feedback. You are correct about the location of the rooms in the sense that our lighter sleepers may be a little sensitive to these factors. I always suggest that they request in advance an interior room away from the elevator and you will get a great nights sleep. I hope you give us another chance in the future and I'll make sure to get you a quieter room.

As a Hampton Inn, the interior design and décor is more upscale than most. The accommodations are ample and well appointed. The breakfast buffet is decent, although obviously extremely crowded at peak hours. Parking is excessively expensive ($55) but that's typical for downtown Chicago. You just need to factor that into your budget. Location is great and easily accessible to all major points of interest downtown.

We stayed at the Hampton Downtown for 3 nights and were extremely pleased! The lobby is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Our room (two double beds) was very nice and clean. Many reviews said it was small but I thought it was more than adequate. There was room for both beds, a desk and a reading chair. It's not like you spend a lot of time in your room when you're in downtown Chicago anyway. Breakfast was great with a lot of variety. Big shout-out to the breakfast crew, they work their tails off! As other reviews stated, the fire dept. is right across the street and they do come in and out at all times of day and night. Because of the reviews, I requested to be on an upper floor on the east side of the hotel. The staff was very accommodating and placed us on the 6th floor/east side and we slept soundly every night with no problem. The fitness room was a nice surprise also. Not many places offer free-weights and this hotel offered a wide range of weights, as well as other equipment in addition to your basic treadmills and ellipticals.

I only have 2 suggestions concerning the fitness room:
1. Repair the floor (trip hazard)
2. Offer some sort of sanitizing spray or wipes to clean off the equipment when you're done working out.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely choose this hotel again.

Hello Stacey,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a great review, and also for all the compliments about out hotel and staff. I'm glad that you pointed out our breakfast staff. They truly are great and work so hard up there each morning. They're always interacting with guests while still managing to clean and stock the area. You also mentioned our workout room which I love. Youre right, not many hotels have free weights and I was really shocked when I started working here. Its a great option for our property. Were currently working on repairing the floors, but we do actually have wipes for the machines in the room. They're in the corner in an upright stand. I'll double check and make sure were stocking them though. Hopefully you had a safe trip home and thanks again!
