Visited in December 2012. the festival of lights is a must see experience. They have so many lights and attractions to see that it never gets old. They offered us 3D glasses that even enhanced the experience (the light posts showed as a favorite Christmas Character) and they were FREE! Not only are the lights cool and fun, but a lot of the Zoo exhibits are open after dark, which is a totally unique experience. Something everyone must see once! We visited in the rain and even then it was totally worth it

A wonderful place to spend time enjoying the outdoors and animals in downtown Chicago! Unbelievable that this is a free zoo (parking however is about $24). Immaculately kept, beautifully maintained. Everyone was wonderful and helpful. I would definitely recommend this zoo to anyone who is visiting downtown Chicago. Better if you can get there and no have to pay for parking! But even then it is well worth the trip. It worked out to be less than $6 per adult!

The zoo is beautiful, very well kept, free, and the animals were all very active. We visited the zoo in late June 2013 and we are so glad we did. We rode the bus, so we didn't have to worry about parking, but we heard others complaining about the lack of spaces and the high cost. Considering the beauty of the zoo and the free entrance, I would think it is a good trade-off. It was a great experience and is hands-down in the top five best zoos we have visited. It's absolutely beautiful. I loved how close you feel to the animals, particularly the meerkats, gorillas, and the big cats. This is a fabulous family-friendly destination.

The zoo had lots of shade, the animals were well cared for, their areas were clean and the human areas were equally clean. We ate at a cafe by a lagoon. It was clean, the food was amazingly good for a reasonable price. The restaurant was clean and the air conditioning welcomed. We had ice cream at another venue which was equally clean with plenty of seating. I also enjoyed seeing the farm area. The children loved digging up the plastic vegetables and replanting them.
Waited for the 151 on Michigan avenue and the bus kept showing a delay so we drove, the parking garage a few blocks from the zoo was pricey but then 4adults and a child round trip would have cost and we didn't have to worry about bus delays at the end of the visit when everyone was tired.

This place is absolutely GREAT for a family outing
The zoo is quite large, but can be finished i a day. It is possible to stay a couple hours there, and it is a perfect summer outing for the family!
I've been here over 10 times, and still have fun going here and showing it off to people who visit
The zoo has a petting zoo for children and a merry go round as well. I would recommend bringing picnic food and picnicking at the Zoo as well.
the zoo also has a show for the seals and many exhibits where children and adults can touch live snakes or lizards, etc.
The zoo is free, which is just wonderful.
It's location in Lincoln Park is fantastic. The lake, a Park, The botanical gardens, and Lincoln park are all located nearby, so even leaving early or late, you will have lots of things to do around the area
