As we were staying in the Lincoln Park area it was inevitable that we would visit the zoo. It's free and although they may not have the range or quantity of animals other zoos have, such as London, it is well work a visit.
We were here in December so they had decorated the zoo with lights which children no doubt really enjoyed. The highlight for us had to be the monkey and ape pavilions. The various species were fascinating to observe and the Hugh glass fronted enclosures made viewing very enjoyable. Several of the female gorillas had recently given birth and it was easy to see mother and baby without being overly intrusive. The zoo had arranged areas designated as quiet places where the public were asked to be quiet as these were close to areas of the enclosure that the mothers favoured.
It's a great place to go either with or without children especially if you need a break from Michigan Avenue!
