Plan to spend some time if you want to see everything this museum has to offer. I used the website to preview the exhibits and help me plan my visit. The staff and volunteers are very helpful and can easily point you to the exhibit you want to see. The displays are well done, visually interesting and scientifically accurate. The exhibits are impressive, and spread around, which gives visitors plenty of room to move around and view the displays without crowds.

Parking is available, but the museum can also be accessed by a short walk along the lake from Michigan Avenue. Weekends can be crowded, I went on a Sunday when it first opened and had no problems, but it was getting busy when I left.

Word of caution: Check the game schedule for Soldier Field (across the street from Field Museum). Game day traffic and tailgaters have a HUGE impact on car access to the museum.

Great exhibits. Really enjoyed the exhibit about extinction, even as sad as that is. Very educational, though. Also enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits. It's amazing to think some of the materials they have are over 100 years old. Kind of sad to see all the animal exhibits. Overall a good visit. Very spread out. Almost too much. Lunch cafe was a bit disorganized and definitely over priced.

If you like Smithsonian style museums you will love this one. Prehistoric area is excellent and of course the signature piece Sue the TRex seen in many movies, is accompanied by a huge collection of other Dinosaurs. The Egypt exhibit which I believe was permanent (we were here in 2006 during the King Tut Tour) was excellent with a mock tumb that has some real stones from the region and the walls looked real with writings and drawings. Many artifacts as well. It's a large museum plan some time to see it all. Fast food on premise.

big museum, with alot to see. The exhibits were good, but we didn't leave ourselves enough time to really see it all.
