Owner description: Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Shedd Aquarium brings you eye-to-eye with more than 32,000 aquatic animals - from whales to snails, tarantulas to turtles, angelfish to zebra sharks!

The Pros: We were impressed by the live show .Much improved! Great music, a timely message, a variety of animals all of which look healthy and happy, a large screen projecting closeups of the show. The staff all were helpful and friendly.. Exhibits varied and explained in detail. The addition of one healthy option restaurant. Availability of purchasing tickets on line to avoid the lines a MUST! LOVED OUR DAY THERE!!
The Cons: The website for the Shedd does not adequately explain the ticket options, contains confusing directions to the Shedd and parking, does not alert you to events (like the half marathon on July 20) that shuts down access roads to the Museum Campus and necessitates delayed museum openings ), is overloaded at peak times and logs you off when trying to purchase tickets (late night early morning best times to try), the signage to the parking garage, in the garage and then to the Shedd from the parking garage is unclear. Why not have shuttle buses or someone posted near the garages for questions? (We parked in the underground structure north of Soldiers' Field.)Too many junk food places on the museum campus.

I've been to a few aquariums in my time and really got the sense that the people who work here love their job and the animals.
There were so many things to see and do, we didn't have time to see it all.
I've read reviews where others complain about the price and the fact that they "didn't pay to see dogs." Was the fact that these wonderful people rescue animals who would not make it if it weren't for their kind hearts? The show with the rescued dog was maybe 5 minutes long. It was meant to show the similarities between teaching animals (humans included) positive behaviors. I find that too many people don't truly understand the great work aquariums do. They rescue and provide a non-threatening environment for animals who might have otherwise died.
This attraction has a great balance of stores, animals, interactive areas and the most amazing views.
So much to do and see. You'll have a fun time.

I'll repeat what you've already heard. Arrive when the aquarium opens to avoid long lines. Once you're in, proceed away from the front of the building and see the whales, penguins, otters and manta rays with hardly any crowds. Then work your way back to the front. We love aquariums and there was enough here to keep us interested for four or five hours. We also enjoyed a civilized and relaxing lunch in the sit-down Surroundings Cafe. The food was better than most museum food and the view of the lake was gorgeous.

I love aquariums, and the Shedd Aquarium really lived up the hype. It has quite extensive exhibits and many different types of waterlife are displayed. We used the Chicago City Pass for admission and had no issues whatsoever with using it.

The only drawback to our visit (though not the Aquarium's fault) was there was a HUGE group of school children there for a trip, who arrived the same time we did and were, well, acting like children. We just skipped some of the front exhibits and went to them later on to avoid them. I would just suggest to others to go a little later in the day to hopefully avoid this (only took about 2 hours to go through the whole aquarium).

Overall, though, a great place to visit.

Getting to parking is difficult if you do not research it before hand. I normally do but going by the instructions they give on the web site I figured I could do it. NOT! Remember that if your coming from the sough you must focus not on parking at the aquarium but follow all the signs for soldier field. In the dolphin show we expected more. The program is very short and you do not see much of the aquarium. They spent 20 minutes giving you a movie about Asian carp. Then over half the show time is about a dog that they rescued with has nothing to do with the aquarium. The food court was horrible. Do not go there. They have everyone file into a semi circle and try to crunch your way up to the front of the line in the section you want. Got 4 kids who all want something different and you have to go to 4 lines and wait and wait. The food was very expensive and cold. A Peanut butter and jelly sandwich was 4.00 add fries to that from a different line? about 4.00 don't even think about a drink. 4 kids over 50.00 for food that was bad. Do go outside and see the sting rays. You can touch them. the kids loved that the best.
