It is recommended to come to this place on a day there is a concert. Strolling around and enjoying the beautiful ceilings, walls, etc is a must either before or after the concert.

Beautiful place! Should be on the “must-see” list. We were at Millennium Park and happened to see this across the street and decided to pop in. Incredible finishes in what was originally a library. Go up to see the Tiffany dome (there is an elevator), along the way are beautiful tiles, doors, Civil War memorials. Probably not for the young, but so glad we stopped.

Pop in for a few minutes to admire the domes - especially the Tiffany Dome at the top - well worth the climb. Central location. Staff helpful, friendly and informed. The building itself is a good exmple of 'public' architecture - not only of interest to architecture buffs. There is space to sit, relax and work away from the busy streets. There are often free concerts - check website for details. An enjoyable spce, and free.

We popped in for a visit after our walk through Millennium Park. We initially walked by the center and only after logging in to Trip Advisor did we circle back to go inside. We were quite taken with the two different stained glass domes. The first one, with Tiffany glass, was the most popular with a large tour group gathered around a tour guide. The main room below the dome was closed off with a lot of activity setting up an altar and seating for someone’s wedding. Definitely would be a nice setting.

The stairs were also another nice architectural feature of the building with its beautiful design and ornate features on each level.

The second stained glass dome, Grand Army of the Republic Memorial, was a little quieter from the number of tourists and also cordoned off so we were not able to enter the room beneath it. Color choices were darker in comparison but could also be due to being dedicated to memorializing the civil war.

An exhibit on the Chicago musical was on the lower level along with StoryCorps oral history project. For Chicagoans making a reservation allowed you to record your oral history which will be saved in the Library of Congress.

Worth adding as a stop in a Chicago tour.

Well worth a visit to see how beautiful public buildings were back in the day. Not just utilitarian. Gorgeous mosaics, Tiffany dome ceiling. Truly magnificent. And you might catch a concert in the Preston Bradley hall.
