Owner description: Chicago's breath-taking National Landmark Theatre hosts concerts, comedians, theatrical productions and special events every year. The 3,600 seat auditorium is seven stories high, and the vertical "C-H-I-C-A-G-O," sign is one of the few such signs in existence today. A symbol of State Street and Chicago, the marquee is a landmark in itself, as is the Wurlitzer pipe organ. Patrons can also go behind-the-scenes on their educational venue tour, which runs a few times a week.

“Fascinating piece of history”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

I was lucky enough to catch a Tuesday night behind-the-scenes tour of the Chicago Theatre. (Because it was a dark night at the theatre, we got to see nearly everything - back stage, the green room, dressing rooms, the works.) I am so glad I took this tour! It's a gorgeous historic building. We even got to go on stage! (They asked if anyone had a song. I couldn't resist belting the last few lines of All That Jazz! Very appropriate, no? Acoustics were amazing, with the sound traveling right back to you.)

Backstage, there are all these signatures of people who have played at the theatre: Frank Sinatra, Kathy Griffin, David Copperfield, all kinds of folks. And the building itself is a marvel of French Baroque and marble and chandeliers and decorative plaster work. Highly, highly recommended.

“A Fun "Behind The Scenes" Experience”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We booked a number of Architectural Tours during the week and was able to squeeze in a tour of the Chicago Theater. Tours are only given once a day at noontime.

Our tour guide was very entertaining (I think maybe an aspiring actor) and informative. These old theaters are amazing relics of a bygone era and will never be duplicated. Besides hearing about and seeing a great landmark, you can get up on the same stage as George Burns, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Steve Martin, David Copperfield and hundreds of other performers throughout the Theater's 91 year old history and lookout into the audience. You will also see where they all carried on the tradition of signing their names on the backstage walls.

If you've got an hour to spare around lunchtime a tour of the Chicago Theater is a good way to spend it.

Traveler's Tip: There are a few discounts available such as $2.00 off for seniors, etc. Ask before buying your ticket.

“Great Marquee Tour”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

It was a privilege to step in the old and famous theatre. Just thinking that on its stage was singing Frank Sinatra or Dionne Warwick... great sensation. For me was a great challenge to see inside this theatre for compare with the great National Theatre from my city, a building from 19th century. The building has a interesting arhitecture and I liked it! The guide gave us very good explanations and we had a great tour with her. She also had fun! We steped on the scene and for few minutes we felt like artists! Go and make that tour!!! Have fun and learn about its history!

“Tickets are $25 day of if you're willing to sit in "outter aisle"”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We purchased tickets the day of for $25 and we sat next to a lady who asked us if we had bought same day tickets. We answered yes and she said she she paid $100 for hers. We had great seats and I wouldn't call them "obstructed" like they do.
