This place has a fantastic collection of armor, which is well worth seeing. The location is easy and there are many other interesting places nearby thereafter.

“Paris in January”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

i've been craving a trip to Paris, so as a substitute I decided to spend some time with the Impressionists at the Art Institute. Although not an Illinois resident, the museum is offering free admission until Feb. 13, 2013 to those who can show an ID. The Impressionist collection is very "impressive", although it lacks Manet, there are a great number of Renoir's paintings, which pleases me. There were groups of children being mentored in front of one of the most famous and largest acquisitions, the Seurat "Sunday Afternoon on Le Grande Jatte", but the rooms are large enough that one can contemplate the paintings in relative peace. Be sure to look closely at the self portrait of Van Gogh. The colors, the intensity. Didn't have much time to spend, so for variety, I went down and viewed the collection of black and white photos that evoked a recent American past. Very worthwhile.

“One of the best Art Museums in the States”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

I've been to a lot of art museums globally. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I saw exceeded my expectations. I very much enjoyed the impressionist exhibit and the art through the mid 1900's. I also enjoyed the rotating display of Japanese woodblock prints.

The modern art exhibit in the back of the museum threw me off a little. Modern art isn't my forte. The current special exhibit of paperweights was not worth the time. Stick to the first and second floors.

Make sure you grab a map because layout is not intuitive. You can easily spend an afternoon here. Save at least three hours to get through the highlights.

“A Chicago institution, for a reason”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

What can you say about the Art Institute of Chicago that hasn't already been said? It's huge, beautiful, and world-class. The Modern wing is an architectural gem in itself and the art in it isn't bad either! ;) The restaurant in the Modern wing, Terzo Piano, is upscale and tasty. I would recommend taking advantage of the coat check if you're wearing a coat, as it's such a big museum you can get overheated walking around with a warm coat on, even if it's freezing outside.

As many times as I've been here, it's always worth another visit. It never really gets old.

“Interesting museum friendly for visitors”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

This museum offer very wide selection of art and if you live in Illinois you can check the dates when they offer free entrance. We went on Thursday afternoon with my family (two small kids) and the visit was very pleasant. We got advise from employees where the particular exhibits are located. The new modern art wing is worth a trip too.
