“Clean, comfortable, corner king, and location; all the ingredients for a fabulous Chicago trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Stayed for a three night kid free getaway. My number one priority in a hotel is cleanliness and a feeling of freshness, the Dana surpassed my expectations. The design and use of solid surfaces that inherently stand up to wear and tear were perfect choices. The only noticeable wear in the room was on the edges of the black out shades, they were quite frayed. The bed, linens, pillows, were of such quality that I naturally gravitated to it, a first for me in a hotel.
My boyfriend does suffer a fear if heights, our corner king was on the 9th floor, low enough for him to be comfortable, plus low enough to be able to people watch on the street below from bed. The street noise is heavy at this level, but I am not a light sleeper. Also as others have reviewed the hallway/room sound proofing is non existent. Being in the corner room this was not a problem for us, but when standing at the elevator we could clearly hear conversations in the nearby rooms. I'm sure the guests would have been quite embarrassed if they were aware. The only flaw in our experience was as others have mentioned was the T.V. It seems that dish network must not be a good choice for reliable service in this area. Often channels lost signal or didn't match the guide. For me this was not a problem, I wasn't there to watch television, but my boyfriend was quite annoyed. Staff was apologetic, but obviously the fault was in the network.
All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed and valued as a guest. I booked directly through the hotel, I had questions before my stay and management was quick and caring in their response. Also we were given the breakfast vouchers, the food was amazing and filling.
The final note is location. Three block radius to everything that we wanted and needed.

We loved the design of the hotel, very cool and a bit rustic. We had a corner king room- loved the tall windows looking out to State street. Even though some folks mentioned the weird shower because it lacks privacy as it is glassed in and you can see thru bedroom- my husband and I found it rather sexy!

Friendliest person at hotel was the doorman Cesear. The front desk folks were like mannequins perched behind their cool desks and the way the hotel is designed, you pass them each time you exited the elevators to leave the hotel. They should take their roles less seriously and be more friendly.

Overall, I would stay here again because the rooms are sexy and well deigned and the location is perfect for getting everywhere in downtown.

Room Tip: If you can get a corner room the windows are spectacular

The Dana Hotel & Spa's great location, service excellence from every hotel associate and luxury rooms with an offbeat, artisan feel have brought us back over the last couple years. Its located within easy walking distance of terrific restaurants, champagne bars and entertainment clubs. Every employee we encountered was personable and went out of his or her way to ensure a great stay — from the friendly doorman to the welcome receptionist to the spa manicurist and the housekeeper. We asked one worker about the hotel's penthouse lounge. He escorted us to Vertigo for a look before it opened just to catch the view. That was so wonderfully unexpected!
Our room overlooked State St. and the view was gorgeous. We had a small walk-out terrace from our room to take in the breeze and the sounds. Our comfortable king bed mattress was wrapped in fine linens. The small refrigerator was stocked with beverages including beer and champagne. A selection of fine, reasonably priced red wine was cradled above the frig with stemless wine glasses for sipping in the room. Keurig coffee/tea auto pot makes freshly brewed coffee. The bath with the open glass wall is at once stylish and seductive. The rain shower faucet head is the perfect addition for a relaxing shower.
The amazing Argent restaurant located on the first floor is not to be missed either.
We give the Dana high recommendations!

Like many, I have spent a lot of time in downtown Chicago and stayed at a lot of hotels. Hotel Dana has become my favorite in the last couple years as the rooms are very comfortable and offer great views, the location is perfect and the staff is always helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean, modern(but comfortable and practical) and offer great views of the city. The bathrooms are well designed and offer a lot of comfort as well as great showers(especially in the serene kings and up). A bonus is the lounge on their rooftop which recently added an outside firepit area that is great on colder nights, even in the winter(gets extremely busy on the weekends but a great stop earlier in the week). Overall there are a lot of great hotel options in downtown but this one for stands out as one of the better ones.

Room Tip: Chip in and spend the extra for a serene king or comparable room vs. the comfy if traveling as a cou...

We got a deal on a "Comfy King" room through Hotel Tonight ($229@ night for two nights when there was a convention in town). The room was modern, and had great views to the North from the 26th floor. We even had a balcony - which we did not use 26 floors up in cold and windy March. However, it meant that the windows do open - which is something this reviewer really likes.

The room would have been fine for one guest, but it was awkward for two - only two drawers and the closet was a sliding panel that covered the bathroom door when the closet was accessed. Which meant that someone exiting the bath had to give notice in case the other guest was accessing the closet - else the bathroom door could have pinched the guest using the closet. We really did not spend much time in the room, and we were only there two nights, so we were OK.

Some tips - Comfort King rooms are OK for one guest but we had difficulty finding enough chargers for electronics, closet space and drawer space for two and chairs (one desk chair). Apparently the Serene Kings are larger (and of course mire expensive although I didn't see a room)

Some Tips:

Ask for a room higher up - the views are better and the street noise is less.

There is a lot of noise from the hall and other rooms across the hall that makes it into the room. Assume that your noise can be heard in the hall.

This hotel has a real concierge. That is great!

There is a night club on the top floor which is open to the public, which could be interesting on a weekend.

Parking - we did not do valet parking - although it is available. Instead, we let the very competent bellman take our luggage, then went around the block at parked on self park lot on street level on the SW corner of State & Erie. Only $25 per 24 hours as of this writing, and you can lock your car.

Hi ScoutMidwest,
Thank you for your review! I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. The Comfy Kings are our smallest room type, but very attractive to some because it has a balcony with views of Chicago. Next time, please try a Serene King, they are larger king options with more space for two guests with one wall of floor to ceiling windows. Thank you again, we look forward to your return :)
