I have seats in Premium Seating, Colonnades Section, and on the East Side of the stadium on the 40 yard line 30 rows up. Colonnades is wonderful--when its cold or raining you can go inside and stay dry and warm while watching the game and having a warm drink (or an alcoholic beverage) to warm yourself up. When its hot, first few games of the year, you can enjoy the game from the inside in the air conditioned seating area while having a fabulous dessert from the specialty bar. For those perfect fall days that are just made for football you can sit outside and enjoy the perfection of a fall afternoon and the Fighting Illini. They have a breakfast buffet for early games and a general buffet for later games as well as expanded concession stand fare that you can't get on the East side of the stadium. Top of the line restrooms that are spotless with a special room for nursing mothers. The East side--there's nothing like an October afternoon at Memorial Stadium on the East side, its what college football is all about. However, don't expect and abundance of restrooms or clean ones. A large number of concession stands with the average offerings.

Stadium has a lovely old facade -- it's called "Memorial" Stadium because the almost 200 columns Illinois limestone columns that are one of the Stadium's most striking features each contain a name of an Illinois soldier who lost their life in WWI. (Names of service personnel who have died in subsequent wars are now included in plaques that have been added later.) After attending football games in the SEC, Memorial Stadium seems almost intimate in size -- it ranks 66th in the county in terms of capacity, out of a list of 212 stadiums (football (pro and college) and soccer) in the country. The concessions are sparse, though, and the student section was lackluster at best -- the north end of the stadium has a card section, but attendance was somewhat lacking, resulting in almost comical gaps in the card reveals. One of the streets outside of the stadium usually hosts an outdoor concert stage where a band plays to a meandering crowd, and there is facepainting and inflatable bouncing structures for the kids. Lots and lots of parking lots surround the stadium, and there was plenty of tailgating going on, but very few trees, and little of a "picnic" feel, which didn't seem to bother lots of people chowing down in dusty parking lots. Relatively easy to get to our seats, and exiting after the game was remarkably well-organized.

Rumor has it that there is an abandoned bulldozer at the stadium, which sank in a rainstorm during construction in the early 1920's. A metal detecting company checked the field in April 2012 and found nothing -- but that doesn't mean it's not under the stands. :-) The Stadium was also host to the "Farm Aid" concert of 1985.

Easy to get tickets. Parking a bit of a hassle but not by big ten standards. come in curtis exit off 57 go to first street, head north and park on south side. teams not playing good, but you can get into a big ten game pretty easy.
