Want a place to relax, get some yummy soup, salad, or bread? Along with your choice Coffee, Tea, Soda, Smoothies, and lets not forget the desserts! YUMMY!!! Donuts, scones, muffins, snicker brownies, turtles, caramels, cheesecake (my favorite), and lets not forget chocolate covered espresso beans! Yep you heard me! This place is so relaxing with an amazing atmosphere. They offer FREE wifi! Which is a huge plus. They have comfortable seating all around, a nice couch next to the fireplace. Flat screen TVs, Two conference rooms, and a Rumpus Room for the kiddos. The kids room has an indoor playhouse that has a slide, big comfy chairs, and a kids table. The kids area also includes a room with a changing tables. You can come by yourself with a book and relax, come with friends for fun night, or enjoy a nice cup of coffee while your kiddos play. I just love a nice FAMILY ATMOSPHERE! On a Friday night they offer Open Mic along with special dips, fruit platters at a VERY reasonable price. This has got to be my favorite time to go. They have Special Events even, they just recently had Gracia Harrison from The Voice there! Along with Open Mic on Fridays, they also offer Karaoke. So many things to mention about this place. You will just have to visit for yourself!

The Refuge Coffee House - You have to stop here if you're in Carlinville!

What an amazing atmosphere and GREAT coffee - Free wifi is a nice touch too! The lattes are amazing and there is a special everyday! I've also had their lunch special which was soup, salad, and bread - Potato, Ham, & Cheese Soup was AMAZING - and cheesecake for dessert (of course)! W also love the jalapeno cheddar bread that you can special order as well as a bunch of other breads you can get.

This is really the place to be or hangout in Carlinville on the historic Square, whether you're a with a couple of friends, mate, business colleagues, or family and kids! The new owners have completely remodeled this old building and made it into something beautiful where it's become a place for the community. As an artist who is displaying work there, I feel proud that there is such an amazing place that supports local artists too.

Moms and Dads can grab a cup of coffee, tea, or soda and hang out with their kids in 'The Rumpus Room' which is a large sectioned off area of the coffee house with its own huge diaper changing room and separate restroom. I'm pretty sure you can even rent it for a birthday party.

So many wonderful things to list, curbside service(if you call in your order ahead), delicious treats, a piano, open mic night & karaoke on Friday nights, conference rooms, fireplace, rear entrance & parking, clean facilities!

It's really a place for all people to come together, be happy, and have a good time - just like a coffee house should be. I'm extremely happy that the owners have put so much thought and care into all of the renovations because it's like a breath of fresh air - and the air always smells better with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee!

This place has a couple of dishes that are good, and a few people in town really like them. I really don't. Most of their food is unsatisfying, and more consistent with a "health food" joint with a main course of boiled lettuce and carrot tops. They do have an evening menu that can be OK on SOME evenings. (Check what their menu is for THAT day or evening.) You have to get up and carry your coffee cup to the counter to get another cup. of coffee I HATE lack of service like that! Apparently it's demanding too much for someone - anyone - to walk around with a pot of coffee and offer refills. Hours are a little strange, too. Not on my "must dine there" list by ANY means, but it's OK for a small town if you don't expect much service..

I was in town attending a family reunion and the group decided to try out the restaurant. Folks I was with that evening included many meat and potato lovers and several went quite unwillingly. I have to say our meals proved any with preconceived ideas of how they would enjoy dinner wrong. The meals were excellent, my husband (one of the meat and potato crew) had the pulled pork sandwich and loved it. I had the Quesadilla burger and it was delicious. Several folks had the rib platters, including my father, and they were quite happy as well with their choices. I don't remember what they were called but the chips that served as a side for our meals (maybe sweet onion?) were extremely tasty. Our waitress was extremely personable which just added to the nice experience.

The owner is a great guy who will come up with new food ideas and give out samples to everyone sitting in the dining room. #1 pulled pork in the state, and awesome BBQ nachos!
