The hotel was very nice and in a peaceful place. Very nice place to stay and do some walking up the hill to Fajã da Ovelha and Levada Nova.
In our room we only missed the coffee maker and water boiler in room but otherwise the hotel was worth money. Service was very nice, frindly and hotel staff was very helpful throught out our holidays. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who seeks peaceful place to stay. You must rent a car for holidays because you will need it, as the place is quite apart of facilities and Pául do mar is quiet village which I think is nice.

The space for parking the car is also limited.

I had little hopes for this hotel. We went to Madeira for a diving holiday - as such I called the hotel before booking to check whether there was diving in the area. They said that there was and we booked.

Just before we went I called for the details of the dive outfit and was told that all diving was centred on Funchal - about 1 hrs drive away. I did manage to book through an outfit in Funchal but I had booked in the hope that I would not have to engage in a holiday commute.

Despite this the hotel was actually very pleasant. It is situated in a stunning location and the rooms had excellent sea views. The staff were very friendly and occasionally almost impossible to escape from. Parking was a bit of a nightmare and must be almost impossible when the hotel is full over the summer.

The rooms were spacious and provided a decent 'basic' kitchen for selfcatering if you so desire. The resturant serves a very good breakfast (we did not eat lunch all stay the breakfast was so filling). It is almost impossible to find a decent resturant (either in Funchal or out of it) so be prepared for some long drives in the evening as you search the villages and towns.

Madeira as a destination is probably best suited for the over 70's. As mentioned we went to dive but were blown out for all but two days of our holiday. Unfortunately the weather that made diving impossible also rendered the majority of the islands Levada Walks (the other attraction) dangerous. Funchal's museums are basic and uninspiring but the botanic garden is worth a visit (if your heart survives the frightening drive up precipitous slopes. There is a lovely gem of a tiny but much cared for aquarium at Porto Moniz.

You must have a car to enjoy Madeira, the Madeirans are good drivers but the roads are very frightening - get a car with power steering ours wasn't and I did not have the strength to handle it safely on the bends. Be prepared from macho attitudes from the hire companies as well - they addressed everything to my husband even though I had booked and paid for the car!

I would reccomed a visit outside of the depths of winter you stand less risk of being rained out of your holiday attractions.

Not the most expensive place on the island, particularly at new year when we went. Room was very pleasant (and looks more like the pictures on the internet than any other room I've ever stayed in!!). Views from large balcony were genuinely dramatic over a powerful sea with sound effects.
Village is very quiet, with no restaurants to speak of, but there are nice places within about 15 mins drive (you'll definitely need a car unless you're into 2.5 hour bus rides to Funchal at 6.30am). Hotel restaurant pretty good, with mains around €10.
Staff were a bit, well...Madeiran in attitude. Checking out was no problem, as long as you didn't mind waiting.
Just as a bit of a challenge, if you do decide to stay, see if you can spot the stroppiest waitress in the world. She was so unhelpful, it actually became quite entertaining!
