“Very slow service, so slow we left hungry!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013

Went on 16 Aug for our anniversary. Booked for 8.30; seated at 9pm. 3 courses took over 2 hours! The cost £125. I complained at the time and got no response. Last month I emailed The Grove and received a £20 voucher! We will not be using it!!

“Wow - heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

Went to the Grove for an afternoon tea. What a lovely place, so relaxed and peaceful. Customer service with a smile, absolutely faultless. The afternoon tea - oh boy, three varieties of crustless sandwiches, scones as light as a feather, with clotted cream and strawberry jam, sweet raspberry macaroons, carrot cake, lemon cake, bara brith and a lemony pot - sorry I forgot its title - oh sooooo nice and tasty. Tea in a proper pot. it was a struggle to eat it all, but we managed, we just could not stop ourselves.
Sitting in front of the log fire - you just cannot beat it. I cannot wait to go back for more.

“A culinary delight”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

My husband and I visited The Grove this week and wow what an amazing experience it turned out to be! We had the 5 course sampler complete with a complimentary glass of wine. Each course was a work of art and a gastronomic delight, we were in food heaven. All the members of staff we encountered were extremely attentive, particularly the young French gentleman, whose name we unfortunately did not take, in the restaurant, who explained each course beautifully to us. Although prices are more than we would normally pay, we would hope to make a return visit sometime in the future.

“Go West”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

We had a voucher for a seven course taster meal with champagne for two for £95 for The Grove. So on a lovely sunny Wednesday in October my wife and I set off to visit the Grove for lunch. The last taster meal we had was at Le Manoir earlier this year. The Groves taster menu was head and shoulders above it in terms of taste , construction, inovation and taste and is nearly half the price of Le Manoir even at the full price of £95 each!

The house has been carefully and tastefully restored and all the rooms are furnished in a style that is both modern but in keeping with the period of the house. All the staff are knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. The owner is too.

Nice champagne aperitif with olives in the lovely lounge

The taster meal

Course 1 Smoked salmon - dramatic presentation with real smoke!
Course 2 Goats curd - interesting and balanced with hazelnut, truffle and artichoke
Course 3 Scallops- interesting if not outstanding but lovely all the same
Course 4 Welsh beef- sirloin, braised ox cheek and beetroot cooked several ways -outstanding
Course 5 Cheese - warm Boksberg blue ,truffle honey and pine nut granola- just mind blowing!
Course 6 Pineapple - didn't know there were that many ways to serve pineapple- superb
Course 7- My wife was just about to call a halt at this point but was persuaded by the waiter that the chef would like her to tast something light!. I went the whole hog for the Valrhona Chocolate while my wife was served a lovely light raspberry mousse.

My only slight criticism is that the final three courses are all sweet when perhaps a true savoury dish might be better somewhere. Nevertheless all three courses were outstanding.

As I was driving, only a glass of , Greek, Domaine Gerovassiliou Malagousia each to go with the meal. It was however a match for most of the courses including the chocolate.

Just why this place doesn't merit Michelin status is beyond me.

We liked it so much we even bought one of the lovely pictures hanging on the walls. We will be returning.

“Very Impressed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2013

Four of us enjoyed the 7 course tasting menu and three of us had the wine flight as well - unfortunately the fourth person had to drive.

The food was excellent and the wines were well matched. The service was generally very good and the staff were welcoming and friendly - especially Michal.

The hotel is a handsome building in a lovely setting.

We thought it was very good value for the excellent standard of food that we enjoyed and service.

I would like to return and maybe stay next time to be able to enjoy the hotel to a greater extent.
