The hotel is stunningly refurbished and and furnished. Oak panelled, oak staircase, full length sash windows, double glazed. No expense spared on country furnishings/colour schemes. Open fires and old polished wooden floors. Exceptionally clean and well presented. Lovely cloakrooms, superb bar, beautiful restaurant with fresh linen, flowers and very attentive, smartly dressed staff. Very traditional country house style, quite grand in fact.
Cannot fault the gorgeousness of the place itself.
Food was beautifully presented and minimalist in style and taste, rather than quantity. Despite it looking drop dead 'michelin' style pretty, was slightly disappointed with tastes and textures. Didn't make me go 'wow' this tastes wonderful. The taste factor was not upto the presentation, but it was eminently edible. The prices were reasonable, £22.00 Table D'Hote. A La Carte looked a bit dearer, but not excessive. Interesting menu with some unusual dishes and ingredients. Lots of local food sourced. Wine list catered for everyone, right upto top class. Plenty of choice by the glass too. £7.95 buys a glass of superb red, deep and oaky Rioja and big!
If chef improved on taste as well as looks it would be the best hotel around.More
