The bar staff are very poor and not interested. They took my order but forgot to bring us half our order! They then proceeded to charge us for it and when we said the food never arrived they never apologised or cut our bill!!!! It is also quite rude to add 10% service charge to the bill for this service!
When I previously stayed there they undercharged me for a bedroom and food order - I did not bring it to their attention as I felt they did not deserve the full payment - the bedrrom was also extremely hot in the summer so much so that I could not sleep - there is no air conditioning or fan available. Awful place unless you want a simple pint or drink

Room Tip: no good rooms

We have experienced many and varied hotel stays but this has got to be one of the very best. We were treated like VIPs from the moment we registered in to the time we left. Big mention to Hayley for her personal attention and a massive thumbs up for the amazing gastronomic heaven that we indulged in. I don't quite understand the other low marked reviews because we were treated no less than importantly by all the staff, and the room was just out of this world. This was a Secret Escapes offer, but the hotel will offer you an identical package once you have stayed there, and believe me, you will want to experience it again! Thanks guys!

Room Tip: Get in touch with the hotel before you leave if you have certain requirements - they will always try to accommodate your needs!

Stayed here for one night via Secret Escapes and should have read reviews first. We agree that the dinner was excellent and exceptional but totally agree that the rooms are shabby and very small. We also had no soap and asked twice before we got it ourselves. No bulb in our bedside light. Staff in the bar very indifferent. Went down to breakfast at 8.30 and could not get onto the pub. Knocked on the door and the girl inside was just mouthing at us. Made her open up when she told us the chef wasn't getting there until 9am in spite of the book in our room saying breakfast was from 7 am. Apparently the staff from dinner said no one wanted breakfast until 9 but nobody asked us! Breakfast consisted of coffee in a flask and to help ourselves, couple of boxes of cereal. Had a cooked breakfast and got white toast when asked for brown. By this time could not be bothered to say anything. Right outside our room were the dustbins, rubbish on the floor and a garage full of junk. The hall was also unhoovered and had bags of rubbish. Can not see why this has 4 stars.
Some of the staff definitely need talking to as they just did not care. Will not be recommending or returning which is a shame because the dinner was so good.

We spent the night and were disappointed in the room which was tired and so was the bathroom and quite tiny and the sink was minute. Room was clean but however the girl did not hoover the hallway of our block which was dirty when we arrived and she was still there preparing the rooms upstairs, so the hallway remained dirty. The floors creak a lot which made it noisy when people were heavy walkers in the room above us. Homemade biscuits in the room were a nice touch. The Dinner was amazing - we are both foodies and the chef excelled himself - nothing to fault about the food. However, we ordered a bottle of Chablis to go with dinner and this came up in an ice bucket already opened - and worst of all it was warm - we had to fill up the ice bucket again but it was half way though the meal before the wine had even reached a satisfactory temperature whereas the bottle of still water was ice cold!! Breakfast the next morning was nice but as we were first down and after we had taken the only two boxes of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, they were not replenished and therefore there was less choice for the remainder of the guests. We ordered a full English and it was presented beautifully BUT the plates were JUST warm and therefore the food went cold very quickly....and a big disappointment was the mushrooms were tinned. By the time we were half way through breakfast - we were eating cold food. Also, one point to mention, the road running alongside the rooms was very busy and noisy, once the traffic started. We feel they may well have to think about double glazing at some stage to cut down on noise. All that apart - again we cannot say enough about the quality of the food for the dinner. The staff were very pleasant but some very inexperienced which showed.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have larger windows so therefore would be lighter but you cannot really leave them open at night time for fresh air for security reasons and you do get the delivery vans right outside early in the morning.

Had a fantastic deal at the White Hart with Secret Escapes!
Samuel Pepes once owned this Inn, lovely oak beamed bar. Nice history details in room.
Stayed for one night on our way to Suffolk to visit friends. The food was out of this world, couldnt believe the deal! Glass of champagne to welcome us included, the staff were brilliant. We shall be back, I recommend anyone looking for good food to stop here in wonderful countryside!

Room Tip: The accommodation is in a separate block, very comfortable.
